JET LI vs JACKIE CHAN: DUELING IMAGES
(Updated Tuesday, Apr 1, 2008, 05:56:18 PM)

n late July 2001 the world's two top martial arts stars announced a deal to co-produce and co-star in an action flick to be filmed in late 2002 for a 2003 release. The question naturally arises: what kind of movie could do justice to two such divergent types? Jackie Chan is a highly acrobatic clown who has built his following on a self-effacing counry bumpkin image. Jet Li is a deadly serious warrior who finds it easier to crack a man's neck than a smile.
Now that both global megastars are releasing big-budget Hollywood films at a breakneck pace for seven-figure salaries, they are the most visible Asians in the American filmgoing consciousness. Whether we Asian Americans like it or not, our image is shaped more by the screen exploits and antics of these two broken-English speaking foreigners than by any dozen Asian American actors. In the filmgoing psyche the sober, chaste and deadly-efficient Chinese cop in Kiss of the Dragon is pitted against the nimble goofball in Rush Hour 2.
Which Hong Kong star is better for the image of Asian Americans?

while it was jackie who was hanging hundred's of feet hight above from a helly
i do like them both but prefer jackie
(considering his age too! lets see were jet will be when he's approaching 50's!)

I don't think anyone who posted their opinion on this issue knows much about Jet Li or Jackie Chan. Jet Li is actually a more skilled martial artist and more trained in weapons than Jackie Chan. Jet Li trained in a Beijing sports school that taught Wushu. He was at the top of his class and he has won 5 national Wushu competitions in China before his twenties. Jackie Chan though a great martial arts entertainer, trained in Hong Kong as a Chinese opera entertainer and he was at the bottom of his class. Don't get me wrong, Chinese opera training has martial arts training and it's pretty tough. Though both have never really experienced actual combat, in theory, Jet Li would probably have the upper hand. If you are looking for a real hard core street fighter, the late Bruce Lee is it. Lee is almost undefeated and is probably the most real kung fu man you can find in the movies.
Who is better to represent Asian Americans, maybe neither Jet Li or Jackie Chan because neither of the two are Asian Americans. Who is better to represent Asians as a whole, I think both are qualified. Both of them have achieved great success inspite of the difficulties they have faced.

u can't judge who would win between jakie chan and jet lee as they are two completly different and contrasting charaters.Jackie is also about 6o years old and unfortunutly can't do the kung fu and stunts that made him the god he is today. As for jet li hes becoming a star for the new fast and aggressive style of kung fu and i'm sure he will become a legend in his own right

Jackie Chan vs Jet Li

Jackie would beat up Jet Li. Jackie is way stronger, buffed, and Jet Li is a some stupid stick. Jet Li is just a wanna be Bruce Lee.

Better Asian Image

I've gotta admit, Li is better looking, but the thing about Chan making a fool of himself i disagree. Chan is comedian, so he does weird funny stuff.
Just out of the ordinary-Jet Li is just emmitation of Bruce Lee.

Jackie vs. Jet Li

Chan would beat Li. Chan is stronger, and he's not just some comedy entertainer. He's an action/comedy entertainer. Plus, Chan is better with weapons than Jet Li is. Chan only does martial arts comedy because people kept on calling him the "next Bruce Lee". Action/Comedy is Jackie Chan's style.
