My boyfriend knows that I am black. He knows to some degree about my parents attitudes. I think he is confused about their behavior. He doesn't know the whole entire story on them, its too embarrassing. But I do like your advice on popping over with my boyfriend. They would be shocked. They are really good at putting on a fake smile! LOL!

Seattle can be really nice. Just be very careful of the downtown PudgetSound area at night. There are SkinHeads that frequent the area looking for a good 'mudkilling'. So its good to stay safe. Usually they are harmless if there is only one or two of them walking around downtown. But groups of them? Then it gets to be a problem with their big mouths, and taunting. Usually they just want to get a rise out of people. I have run into them before once in a while. They are just rattling empty cans really.

There are some nice clubs along the district though. I am from Edmonds in the Lynnwood area.
I moved away from Washington State 1 year ago. The interracial scene there is quite favorable. There are many mixed couples there...its no big deal there. My aunt an uncle still live there, they are a mixed couple. Hes black and shes white. They haven't really had any trouble from people. My husband and I met there. We didn't eperience anything out of the ordinary. Back then we went to the rave clubs and concerts and stuff, we were into partying back then.

Seattle, like Chicago, is segregated. Hence, your experiences are dependent quite a bit on the particular sub-culture dominant in an area. Where do you live?

Well, i don't want to sound rude but, does you boyfriend know that your are black? just asking.....since you made a comment about your parents "passing" and such? I'm assuming that your dad went to a black college and pledged a black fraternity.....otherwise the whole academic thing wouldn't make any sense. I didn't think people still passed as white. My great aunts, uncles and two grandparents did, but that was to save their asses in The South. and that was a while back. not now. But, anyways, if you and your boyfriend are planning to be together for a while, they've got to meet him. Otherwise it's just going to get worst with them not know how he is exactly. Better they meet him and see how you two connect or lose a family tie over silliness. So your sisters all married boring ass engineers that probably don't have non-conservative bone in their bodies and the other a lawyer......chick, 2 yrs. and he's not met your family? Just do it and get it over with. Tell your folks you are coming over, not mentioning that the BF is coming with you. Make sure dinner is in the works and just go for it. They ( your parents ) will eat their words sooner or later. Live your life for you. Don't become another bored, hostile spouse, pissed off at mom & dad cause you're married the wrong man for you.

I agree with CoSmic sandlwood. I, like everyone else, thought that Jet Li and Aliyah were supposed to be lovers in "Romeo Must Die" when I first saw it. But the second time I saw the movie, I noticed that Aliyah and Jet Li didn't even have a kissing scene. So really the movie didn't prove that the two were romantically invovled.

Thanks. I do feel like I am making the right decision. I do miss my family alot but its probably better this way. I can't let them make decisions for me. Its a tough call.

Okay, just to let you guys know, there's another screen name stealer on the loose. I did not post that comment from 7/20/02 about Pissed Off leaving a sister hanging. I am not desperate...
