To AC Dropout

Actually being a "FOB" is more like when you CAN'T speak proper english. Sorry I just had to correct you!

AC Dropout,

It's funny you mentioned video games. While I will always at least try to bond with my kids through dialogue and books, Playstation 2 and Xbox are certainly not without thier charms. I'm always blown away by the near-to-life-like quality of some games. Like this one football game I saw in COMPUSA. I swear for a moment I thought I was actually watching a video feed of the Bucs take on the Vikings. Your talking to a guy who grew up on Atari 2600 mind you who managed to find countless hours of entertainment playing Defender and Yars Revenge (odd little game involving a fly and the Zorlon Cannon).
So I can definitely understand the videogame bonding experience. Once my father and I played Frogger for 3 hours. Another fond memory.
I did manage to watch my 13 year old nephew play this game called Final Fantasy X or IX or IIX or some crap. I found the subject matter pretty interesting to say the least and the graphics were mind blowing. However I found the story to be a bit annoying. As I am paraphrasing my nephew here, he explained to me the romance aspect of the game revolved around an Asian looking girl and this blonder then blond, bluer then blue eyed Swedish looking boy. I asked him if there was more character selections available. He said yes but the choices were some other blond girl or some wolf thing I think. Anyway the long and the short of it was Asian chica and the son of Brad Pit. I saw this before in a cartoon movie my kids watch called Titan A.E.. The whole spacy future scene involving the AF/WM pairing seems quite popular. I guess the future is inescapable.

From a good republican friend of mine, he always says "Deeper the roots sweeter the juice." To all Asian Americans, only method to establish a sturdy root in this country is to exercise your power to vote as a citizen. Please perform your duty on your next election.

I am of course addressing TeleCrap on his commentary on the AA Male on the upcoming "That 80s Show" which is set in the wonderful multicultural city of SAN DIEGO CA!!!

Excuse me, but there are Asian American Republicans all over the place in California, Texas and even New York. Asian Americans are a 50/50 split between the Democratic and Republican parties. Are you wanting to buy into the lie perpetuated by Jesse Jackson that minorities are only Democrats and aren't Republicans?

I think it's great that one of the principals is an Asian American male. Between him, John Kim on "Off Centre" and the new Med Student/Intern on ER, we're finally beginning to have some presence in Prime-Time TV. The Fact that this fella speaks without a stereotypical accent and isn't playing some immigrant store owner accusing people of stealing for laughs is a bigger plus. Let's take it for what it is and see what happens!

to ABCDad:

There is no such thing as addressing a problem like this (or any problem, for that matter) at too early a time! Everything that you do, or don't do, during your children's early years molds your child's personality. If you don't do something now, it'll be much tougher to get rid of the problem later. You shouldn't lecture them or have one of those "talks", though. Instead guide them toward friendlier media and make sure the way that you act affects them positively. You have to address it NOW.
