I voted for Michele K. and Dat N. because they are Asian American. You have to AA to be able to promote positive image of AA.

Here's a recap of Asians in the NBA.

Wang Zhizhi - He's supposed to be a free agent by the end of this season. Personally, I'd rather see him have more playing time, and more publicity, with an average or below-average team.

Yao Ming - Should be the first or second overall pick in the NBA draft this coming June.

Menk Bateer - At 290 pounds (and 6'11"), that makes him the third heaviest player in the NBA. Perhaps not a superstar, but has a solid roster spot in the NBA.

Ma Jian - A 6'7" Chinese basketball player who was on the LA Clippers preseason roster in 1996. He was the last player to be cut from the regular season roster. Played in Chinese basketball leagues since, but won't be coming into the NBA.

Ri Myong Hun - The 7'9" North Korean basketball player caught in diplomatic troubles with the U.S., and unlikely to play in the NBA because of that.

Wang, Menk, and Yao were the three 7-footers in the Chinese basketball team in the 2000 Olympics. There where two more 7-footers who also tried out for the team, but were too young back then; Zhengdong Tang (7'1") and Xue Yuyang (7'0"). NBA scouts rated both of them as having the tools to make it in the NBA. I posted a link to Zhengdong Tang earlier, but have not heard about Xue Yuyang recently.

Let me tell you guys why I think it is important that we have Asians in the NBA. This is a sport along with volleyball and tennis that is most popular with our youth in the USA. We know we got lots of good Asian American players who can also excel at basketball, volleyball and tennis.

Now if we got a couple Asians in the NBA, this will juice up their game. People will start giving us the respect on court that we deserve. Ball up, pick 21.

And, the girls be watchin.

But, whenever I go to the local parks and play pickup basketball games, they pick me last because I am not that tall and I am an Asian. And, they always pick the black dudes first. I'm like OK, those fools don't even know us, why they already stereotyping? If you come down to the park and watch the outcome, you know who has the last word.
We really need more Asians in the NBA    Wednesday, March 06, 2002 at 00:29:59 (PST)
Honestly, Wang Zhizhi would be better able to prove himself on a team that needs his minutes. The guy can score. He just needs playing time. I have seen basketball in China. Many of the players on the Chinese teams are former NBA or standout NCAA players. Now, Wang Zhizhi has played against them and beat them. Just compare to Sacramento's Hidayet Turkoglu. That guy gets more playing time than Wang Zhizhi and has proven he can score at the NBA level.

Wang will do himself good by finding a lower NBA caliber team that might give him a chance to start. He won't get any younger and the NBA now is in need of centers who can score.

I have seen him play on Chinese TV. He can shoot both inside and outside range.

And, he just needs to fine tune on defense a little bit. He needs that fire and killer instinct that others like Nowitzki and Turkoglu have. And, of course, a chance to play more often too.

Somebody,

i mixed those too up, thanks! Your right, Craig Paquette doesn't even look asian. Parque is the man.

Thomas,

i'm excited about CF Chen too. he will be big news once the media gets on him as the first Chinese big leaguer. Him and Hee-Seop Choi should move up to the majors. If McGriff does terrible or gets hurt, Choi will start in Chicago. If Dante Bichette goes down, Chen will start in L.A. realistically, i think chen & choi will make their debuts in 2003, but I hope to see them sooner.
