This is what I read from a news article about Yao's debut in Chicago. He did not submit his weight last week at Chicago. The 236 pounds is old data from the olympics. His weight will be measured and submitted in the NBA draft on June.
Looking at him last week in Chicago, he was skinny. He's probably more than 236 pounds, but I doubt he's anywhere near 295 pounds. And during the drills, he was described as having alot of trouble standing his ground against the 7'2", 300 pound Chris Christofferson.

Look at it this way...If you want to go for all the gold with one shot you go with Yao Ming...but if you want to be convservative then you take Jason Williams. Yao Ming is a great risk, but with greater risk comes greater return.

I like Mengke Bateer, Wang Zhizhi, and the future Yao Ming. It is about time that Asian men are stepping to team sports, particularly in basketball. I would like to see more Asian men in sports.

GUYS, Yao Ming is 295 lbs at 7'5 at the physical when he was in Chicago. The 235 lbs was when he was 19 years old at the Sydney Olympics. He is pretty light on top but with very solid legs. He should hold his ground in the post. he just has to bulk up more on top.

Yes, Yao Ming is one skinny bitch. But don't tell him I said that... he'd probably dunk my ass in a basketball hoop. I used to only weigh about 135 at 5 foot 8, and now I am 170 at the same height. If a non-athlete like me can gain 25 pounds of rock hard muscle, than a professional like Yao can easily add that much, if not more! I still believe.... Yao, I still believe. If he weight-trains very hard over the next few summers, he could return weighing about 265-270 pounds! Shawn bradley eneterd the league weighing 245, and now he is 275, although that look him a good 6 or 7 years to achieve.
Go Yao Ming -- you do us proud!!!

hakka-man, I can corroborate what you say. While I quit sports long ago out of adolescent sillyness (where I lived then there was practically no racism, instead it had to do with moving, and computers, lol) after practicing I used to shoot, jump, and run like crazy.
I also used to.. um.. stalk cats. Needless to say I became very agile and stealthy =p
However those days are long past.. and I am rather lazy now, and enjoy computer games ;)

Er... sorry to burst the bubble but Choi has been on the PGA tour for a while now and has JUST won. Not that this isn't a great feat, but to even begin to COMPARE him to Tiger Woods is blasphemy.
In regards to Yao, I will believe it when I see it. He's been hyped, and he appears to have some skills, but we'll see how he can handle the physical NBA game. Shaq WILL dunk on him and then laugh in his face. Hopefully the Chinese government won't be too bitchy about it because they could really be hurting Yao by not allowing him to fully develop in the NBA. Either way, though, he's a project player and won't make an immediate impact. If I have the first pick, I take Jason Williams.

Looks like K J Choi will do for AM golfers what Seri Pak did for AF golfers. he just won the Compaq open by 5 strokes over his nearest rival! And he's already being compared with Tiger Woods for his steadiness and intelligence.
Could there be a Corean dynasty building on the PGA tour? The answer is YOU BET!

Yao Ming recently made his NBA debut in Chicago. He's 7'5", but I was surprised at how skinny he is. He only weighs 236 pounds! Basketbal magazines and other sources listed his weight around 260 to 275 in the past, but that sure turned out to be way off.
I'm not sure if that's enough to fight for rebounds and block shots under the post (at least by NBA standards), but at least weight is far more easily adjustable than height.
