Chitown Depressant and c-web,

Sorry, but no one has even heard of Korean Boxers in the U.S. Filipinos are more popular respectfully. Among them is Luisito Espinosa, a former 2 time world champion who defended his title many times against tough Mexican and American contenders. There are many Filipinos in the Boxing Hall of Fame. The current Filipino who everyone knows is a featherweight by the name of Manny "the Destroyer" Pacquai. Sorry, but no Korean World champions that anybody knows.

Those amateur records and rankings don't mean diddly squat. Nobody remembers Olympians here anyway. It's like a one night stand. When you win it, everyone knows you, but the next day no one could care less. It is the tough world champions who are. In fact, I watch boxing all the time and I never once heard HBO and SHOWTIME mention a Korean's name. Ask anyone in the U.S. about a Korean boxer and nobody will know, but ask them about Filipinos and a large portion of them will know a couple.

You must be joking when you stated that Korea is better than Japan in Judo. Come on! That's like saying they make better cars. What a laugh. Japan is the best in Martial Arts only second to China. Shoalin Kung-fu is rated #1 while Karate is rated #2. You get your facts straight before you try to talk bad to ROCKY because you seem to have no such knowledge yourselves.

Tay Trai:

Kinda have to disagree with you. I don't want to start preaching the gospel of baseball, but just look at what the game does for Hispanic and black players. You'll have typical white guys rooting for African American players on the East Coast, West Coast, middle America and even in the South.

Have you ever seen an Atlanta Braves game when Fred McGriff or other black players get gaming winning homeruns or hits. I mean, it's absolutely beautiful to watch all those good old boys with beer in their hands rooting for the home team.

Baseball announcers are different from other sports. They tend to be overly complimentary of the players. Asian guys would get a lot of good publicity from baseball announcers. They'd be constantly saying how smart, agile and team-spirited this or that Asian player is.

Baseball really is a good athletic venue for Asians to devote time and energy to. I'm telling ya, man.

Just imagine all the black and white kid fans walking around with Asian players on their sports jerseys.

When Hideo Nomo pitches no-hitters in Boston and Denver he received standing ovations and opposing fans cheered him like he was their home town hero.

The promotionalism and fan loyalty provided in baseball is exactly what Asian Americans need.

Tay Trai,

Yeah OK, it ONLY has to be the sports that you mentioned, right???? You'd know better than anybody else, right?
Since you're an expert on what will uplift the Asian status.

Baseball's the weekest of the 3? Well, you're entitled to your opinion. Believe me; Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and even Ichiro get as much props about their athletic prowess and even Manliness as Randy Moss and Jason Kidd.

Yao Ming's the the great Asian hope? The hope for what? What does he have to prove for Asians. That's a big burden to have the hopes of the whole Asian race on one persons shoulders, isn't it?

What about all those hundreds of Korean and Japanese baseball players that'll make it to the big leagues and become stars [like Ichiro]? They're not gonna have a positive impact for Asians at all, huh? Like he and the other Asian big leaguers are irrelavent to any positive image Asians might receive. According to you, Yao Ming is our ONLY hope. LOL

And who says Asians have to be stars in sports, especially the ones you mentioned, to have a good image in this country? Why can't Asians build positive images as Doctors, Lawyers, and Engineers??

I don't even know why I bothered with your post or some of the other senseless comments that people post on here. Maybe I was bored or maybe you hit a nerve but believe me, you're not
a spokesman on what will and what won't benefit the Asian race or the Asian image.

BTW, there's a lot of hoopla surrounding any # 1 first round pick. Especially when no one in this country has seen a game that person's ever played in, that's why Yao Ming got so many boos on draft day. The hoopla he's getting had very little to do with the fact that he's Asian. A draft choice from any other country in his situation would've got the same publicity, both good and bad.

Aaahhh, Chinese wishful thinking again?
Confucius saids " Yao Ming??? Say what??? He hasn't even played yet a minute in the NBA yet, all the hoopla is because he's 7'5" tall. Lets' wait until he prove himself like Ichiro, Nomo, Park." LOL!!

Kwan Fan
