if 30 % kinhs are part chinese, 20 %are part khmer, well...only 50 % are pure kinhs, not 70 % as stated above. besides, how many percentage of viets are mixed with malay?

You're funny History Freak. After giving a 2000 words essay on the history of Vietnam, you go on to say [sorry but I don't study the history of Vietnam much.] Oh by the way, I'm Vietnamese and I have a walk that could be described as a "duck walk" with the 2 feet spread outward...very much like the walk of Charlie Chaplain. Does this "spreading feet" have any advantage in the 21 century? :)

Hey, you guys know this stuff too? I've learnt it in school at the age of 9 in vietnam. I live in USA now, i moved at the age of 10, so my english is ok.

The toe thing seems to be right. And most vietnamese in vietnam are fair skinned, lighter and brighter than the rest of asia. Brightest. But the vietnamese in america are dark skinned, but probably because they are more southern oriented where the khmer influence is much stronger and alot of mixing could occur.

Well, Taiwan student. What you've wrote is true. The light and bright skin is an attribute to the kinh people. And the lighter and brighter you get usually you'll see more space between the toes of the feet. Vietnamese people, it seems, to have a bit of a different style in the feet. It seems to be true, and the space seems to get smaller as you get darker. I guess the lighter you are and the brighter you are the more space you get. In chinese annals there have been records of the vietnamese being fair skinned and brighter skinned, and records of the toe thing too. I've travelled through asia (most of asia) in 1999 and it does seem that the vietnamese do have the lightest skin and the fairest and brightest too. But it's hard to stay light when you do live in between the tropic of cancer and equator (as you yourself have described).

I'm also a history freak so i've heard of this stuff from my studies in china.

Strange...Americans (white establishment led by Johnson and Nixon) killed more Vietnamese in a year than the Chinese did in a thousand years..yet, a Vietnamese would disown their child in a minute for marrying Chinese, whereas marrying a white American is well accepted, and this attitude is also prevalent among communities here in the US. And we are trying to analyze why 40% of AAFs marry white. Why is anyone even surprised? The attitude is similar regarding Koreans and Japanese. Real tragedy indeed.

northern viets have lighter skin cos there is less sun up North. look at laos. northern laos also look lighter than southern laos. if 70 % of the kinhs are still purists till this day, could we now spot a viet with the weird feet?

well i'm a bit skeptical.
