Thalassemia disease spreads only through genes. In China, it is usually found in the southern provinces and some hub of provinces in the northwest located in the old Silk routes (Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi). Ironically, these are the provinces where historically most of the Persian, Arab and Turkic peoples settled or migrated either through the caravan land routes in the northwest or the naval sea routes in the southeast.

One thing I notice is that the Han people of the northwest and the southeast have less bigger heads and fat faces compared to those in the northeast. Could this be due to a Middle East admixture?

"If a southern chinese has some Northern facial feature, it's because his ancestors moved from Northern China to the South." --Beijing fob

Well, I'm glad that SOMEONE noticed that a lot of Southern Chinese do not look completely different from Northern Chinese. I'm a Cantonese who do not look the way Cantonese are supposed to typically look , and I could never relate when people keep talking about how different Northern and Southern Chinese are supposed to look from each other. And the truth is that I've noticed a lot of other Cantonese people who also look like they could be from Shanghai or Beijing. Although Cantonese who look more northern are definitely in the minority, they are not exactly rare either.

(Shanghai, Wuhu, etc.these are areas where women are usually praised for their delicate beauty).

Aznhistorybuff:

I've never heard of Shanghai as the birthplace of beautiful women.

Actually...a recent report said that beautiful women are likely to be from Da Lian...which is in North East China. (Dongbei)

I'm not from Shanghai or Da Lian...so this is an objective fact.

-there are a total of 54 ethnics in China so it was probable the yueh is one of those ethnics, but they're not kinhs, as said in the post of taiwan history freak.

you must have gotten mixed up. 54 ethnics in vietnam, not china. i think the yuehs are from southern china. a small number of yuehs immigated to vietnam.

I believe Han people are not from the North plains of China. Han earn their living with cultivation, and people in the North plain (manchurian for example) excel at hunting. thus the han live mainly in northern and central areas. so the mixing of han with southern chinese is inevitable and han made up a huge percentage of the central and southern population.

Although the Kinh were assimilated through culture, little were assimilated through ethnic. Many kept hatred, well how can you marry someone who just murdered your father? And the Kinh and Han had wars every 50 years or something, so the ideas stayed that way.

That's why today scientist still separate the Kinh and Han into different ethnics, when they could easily mark them as one. Why didn't they mark them as one? Because they are not one.

Vietnam has 57 ethnic groups, the Kinh being the largest of them all.

It is said that the Yueh after moving down to where the Kinh lived dissappeared. That is why the vietnamese are believed to have Yueh blood, but the Kinh well have more Kinh blood. It is believed that the Yueh were assimilated to the Dong Son (kinh) and dissapeared.
