I would say it's cultural influence that makes the intelligence. Asians who are raised confucious are usually logically based, hence the genius in math, science, english (essays and research papers), and social (hey, it's just memorizing). I find that there are a lesser number of asians who are artistic for this very reason, if you ever go to the arts department (painting, creative writing...etc...) there i find few asians.

Asians might fare high on IQ tests because most are based on math, science, english skills, and history. Very few is based on painting or writing a book.

Todays viets are probably a VERY complex mixture of ancient viets, some han, and people from the red river delta.

From logic, the ancient viets should be the base ethnic. Hence the reason why everyone claims loyalty to them. I would also say a big chunk of genetic influence from the delta people due to language. And a relatively important chunk of cultural influence from the han (first foreign conquering, which lasted for hundreds of years on and off, then known as the thousand year reign, viets knows it as the thousand year war).

The thing that is so annoying sometimes is that people just say viets look chinese because of our skin. But very seldom do these same people throw in other physical aspects such as bone structure, muscle density, bone density...etc...

I find viets to have a leaner body, big eyes, double eyelids, kind of thick but curved eyebrows (i don't know, i heard bushiness is han, but curviness is malay). Those usually fit all viets south or north, i left out anything that is usually regional (like skin color, nose type, feet type).

Sometimes it's hard to guess, but usually i would bet that a viet born in vietnam could guess correctly 95% of the time if he's viet. Guessing if he's japanese, chinese or korean, if not found to be viet, i would doubt the accuracy would be the same, infact probably way off.

Here is the link to Van Mieu (Temple of Liturature) that is known as the first Vietnamese university. This temple was built nearly 1,000 years ago by Vietnamese Ly Dynasty also to worship Confucius, a great Chinese Philosopher (551-479BC). U.S president Bill Clinton came to visit this temple in his historic trip to Vietnam more than a year ago.

Don’t ever think people have a lot of time spending on the internet like you. I only read some posts that I feel it is worth to read. Some links that you provided are nore likely to advertise tourism in Vietnam not a worthy document for research stand point. Here’s a document I found written by a scholar on the Hmong people:

IN GENERAL there are more smart asians than there are smart blacks, just like there are more recognized blacks in the sport areas than there are asians. no offense intended ...i'm just stating a fact of life.

To my Filipino brothers on this board,

It is good that you have no race consciousness. I know it is very true when you compare them to other Asians, such as the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese.

But, some Filipinos I know go out of their way to say they are Hispanic. I once worked with people from Spain and they have the lowest opinion of Mexicans and Central Americans. I cannot even imagine what they think of Filipinos? Many young Chicanos today even try to reacquaint themselves with their true Aztec and Maya heritages.

There is also a big, if not greater Chinese influence on Filipinos compared to migrants from Spain and Mexico who settled in Phillipines. Many Filipinos can name at least one or two Chinese relatives or ancestors they have in the family. Even the lumpia you eat is a Chinese originated food (egg rolls). Tagalog word for key (sosi) is pronounced in the same way in Chinese. There are lot more influences to name...

And, not to mention I know a lot of young Filipinas date anything other than their own men in USA. I see many with not only white, but also black and Mexican guys. But, I have see a lot with Chinese and Japanese guys too. Filipinas have always been loved by guys of all races. They and Hawaiian Polynesian women are among some of the most beautiful in this world.

I heard somewhere that if the 2nd toe is longer than the big toe then you will be poor. If the big toe is longer than the rest, then you will be rich. Check it out.
Also the larger the space between the big toe and the second, could be indicative of mental disease; either bipolar or manic depressive. Better look into it.
As far as caucasoids go, we're not related so no need to delve into that interesting speculation.

Most likely there is Han in you. But like the old vietnamese saying.

"My heart which pumps the blood will always be vietnamese".

In that Y Chromosome test, 80% of the people who took the test showed up with Y Chromosome 7, which is dominant in chinese. BUT remember, this is a HIGHLY unproportionate test. There was like 50 chinese and 11 viets. And how the heck did 40% of viets in 11 people end up representing 40% of all viets? It's HIGHLY unaccurate to think so. Until there's a test that has a HUGE sample size (i would say over 10 thousand an ethnic), then it would be impossible to determine. Because in every nation it is so diverse. In Vietnam there is 54 ethnics, in china 57 (i think).

The arm thing i find highly unlikely to be true. I know many chinese who don't have it.

dry ear wax is a relatively bad indicator for Mongolid ancestry in the narrower sense. Because the "gene" for dry ear wax seems to be recessive. If someone is hapa he will probably have oily ear wax.

Go to some of those vietnamese chat rooms and ask for pictures. Because then you get the most unbiased tastes. They won't be the most beautiful, or the worste looking (sometimes your not lucky though, and they cling to you, this one time i went on a japanese american... ah nevermind) but more of an average, or an overall. You'll probably see people who are dark, and people who are light. To get a jest on the regions which have different characteristics, just ask them are they southern, northern, or central.

All/Most of the stars on Paris By Night are northern vietnamese. Both the MC are northern (i knew the girl was, but the guy was a surprise because of his accent). Those twins, Minh Tuyet (her two sisters)...etc...

BUT Paris By Night doesn't show what most vietnamese in america are, because most who left are democratic loyalists, and most of them are southern. Thus the more common dark vietnamese in america. Go to a vietnamese chat room (one for vietnamese people in vietnam, if your lucky they might have english).

Since you believe in these stuff so much, on race effects your IQ, then i was wondering if you read that 'bell curve' book (or something similar).

It talks about how ethnic groups have different IQ's and such. Asians having an average of 11 over whites, and such (it was written by some european guy). The funny thing is that the guy blames asians work ethic for our achievement, and anyone lower then whites to be effected by genes.

In that article there was one paragraph explaining a research where vietnamese kids and corean kids were taken into white families. These kids combined had average IQ's 11 points higher then the national average. I think i read somewhere that vietnamese kids did a bit better, but whatever. I think that this test was a waste of time just like any other. Random sampling can sometimes catch you an idiot or a genius. Then labelling an entire race by such rediculousness.

Filipinos doing bad and bringing the average down? That's crazy. Add in all the factors and you'll understand. The island is very poor, and is unable to provide for childrens education as japan and corea can. Even though china is communist, it still spends a few more bucks then most other asian countries, and in contests they have camps for close to a year.

In math competitions rank changes, because everyones skill isn't determined by ethnic. It changes by individual.

In 1997 Vietnamese high school students came in third (world wide).

This year they rank 5th.

Does that mean vietnamese students are getting dumber? NO! It's because the individuals aren't all equal, the best doesn't represent the majority, the worst doesn't represent the majority either.

Look, corea and japan lost to vietnam.

BUT you know what? Vietnam's talents don't have the advantage corea and japan does. Corea and Japan has some good universities, they actually can furthur develope their talent, and get them noticed, while Vietnam can't fund as much.

It is sometimes a show thing, where if you don't show off you don't get noticed for your talent. I bet the filipinos have some pretty good talent out there.
