Let’s say Vietnamese are the only people in Asia who lived in the same Chinese Empire (Middle Kingdom) through out many Chinese dynasty, Han, Three Kingdom, Sui, Tang, Song, Ming for a thousand year. And that is the fact. Even after Vietnam gained independence from China in 939AD, Vietnam's official language is still Han (Chinese) and this makes Vietnam different from other South East Asian countries. I would say it does not make Vietnam better but to say Vietnamese are more Chinese than other Asians in terms of cultural, historical, and racial related is more correct. I would not say every Vietnamese is Chinese origin, but many of them are. If you go to any Vietnamese grocery stores in America nowadays, you notice Moon Cakes (Mid Autumn Festival) are available like in Chinese stores.

Look at this Han Empire map, the south most part of China is called An Nam (Vietnam) is covered.

Actually the Japanese acknowledged the "rice eaters" of the south to have been more capable fighters than the "wheat eaters" of the north.

During WWII, the only regional warlord of the Nationalist armies to have beaten the Japanese on more than one occasion were the armies of Guangdong and Guangxi.

In the 1931 skirmish against Japan, the Cantonese troops actually fought so well against them in Shanghai that Chiang Kai-shek got too jealous of the growing military and political influences of the Cantonese and Guangxi generals (many of whom were his classmates in Japan and Whampoa, Canton) that he refused to aid them when men and supplies were running out. Even the people of Shanghai came out to support the Cantonese troops but they had to surrender towards the end.

When the Japanese moved south in 1941 and the armies of Chiang Kai-shek fled inland to Chungking, it was the "Guangxi Clique" warlords who did most of the fighting and resistance in all of south China while Mao and his commies fought in the north. The armies of Guangxi Clique (who were mostly Cantonese and Guangxi men) had won 3 important battles against the Japanese that prevented them from marching inland to Chungking and diverted them instead to Southeast Asia. Even one Japanese general commented that the southern Chinese troops fought with more fanaticism compared to other regions Chinese.

Not all Cantonese are cowards. In the USA, it is they who "speak up" and "represent" for all other Chinese. They kiss up less to whites too.

I have read about the de-populations in the north. But, the later Sui and Ming dynasties managed to drive out nomads and reunify China and had re-settled many central and southern region Chinese to the north. Sui Dynasty attempted to recover some of the lost traditions of Han Dynasty. Most of the artisans and Han aristocrats has resettled in south, but later, the Sui resettled them in north to serve the new dynasty. During Tang, people from throughout China moved to Chang'an and surrounding northwestern parts of China. During the Song, similar movements occured by migration to the northeast (Kaifeng). Later, people moved south again when the capital shifted to Hangzhou. When Ming drove out Mongols, they had massacred a lot of Mongols as well as northern Han. When Yong-lo emperor moved the capital from Nanjing to Beijing, many people again moved from south to north. So, there were a lot of population shifts throughout Chinese history. Not just nomads and southern non-Han, but you also have Han people moving from north to south and vice-versa. I don't know what the current genetics say, but the Y chromosome research I have read indicate a broad similarity between both north and south Han groups and their next closest relation would be to the Southeast Asians.

Genetic studies also cluster some northern groups such as the people of Henan and the Ningxia Hui Muslims being closer to Han people of the south than both groups are to fellow northern Han in Beijing.

In the brinkster website, they had 38 individuals from Guangdong examined their skulls and it came out closest to the ancient inhabitants of north China compared to the Beijing samples. Still, the craniality of Beijing and Guangdong samples still share a 95% similarity with each other. Why did the modern northern Han skulls differ from southern Han/ancient northern Han ones? Some may contribute it to mixture with northern nomads. But, I think it is also due to the change of weather in northern China, as well as the change in staple diet from rice to wheat. Northern China was known to have once had rice as a staple wheat as mentioned in the writings of Confucius and Tang Dynasty.

And since when did i say dark viets turned white? Are you crazy? I believe that the viets/yueh originally were light mongoloids, hence the reason for all of their descendents who are also light; for example, the minnan, cantonese, northern vietnamese and much much more. If you ever travel you will notice that the darker viets live in the south of vietnam, which exposes them to higher chances of breeding with darker groups of the south.

Hey, atleast i have reference you know. My sites even have references to doctors of the field from america, japan, china and taiwan. Scientists don't all have a meeting one day and decide what will come out on their tests. No they don't.

Actually you kind of did say that. Don't deviate your words to get yourself out of the mess. You said that at one time the population of the north probably was filled up with nomads.

It sickens me on how someone, who can't even establish his standpoint, debates. Just really sickens me.

There are many more types of genetic research then which backs up what i said. The only problem now is that still you have not yet provided a site to prove what your saying.

certainly the Cantonese have contributed their part to the Chinese stereotypes. But according to what is still present in the Western media non-Cantonese Chinese are represented by whining immigrants not being manly enough to bear their situation. All civilised people are like that and corrupt and cowardly as well.

All Vietnamese are Chinese? Chinese are Turks? Filipinos are Spanish? Iranians are German? Indians are white? Come on guys....why are u even bringing all the stuff up? It is ANCIENT history, if even true at all, and it really doesn't mean anything. Maybe a couple thousand years ago there was a small Turkish community on the outskirts of Eastern China. That doesn't mean that a modern day CHinese from Beijing can claim Turkish ancestry! The peoples who settled India (hundreds of thousands of years ago) may have been Aryans but does that mean modern Indians can claim Caucasian ancestry? As far as looks go I would say they look more African and Central Asian but... And dont even get me started on the assumption that ALL Vietnamese are Chinese. Their cultures are completely different. Vietnamese are just jealous cuz Chinese have better food than them so I think they are just posting random stuff on this poll saying that they are part Chinese. If all Vietnamese are Chinese, and all CHinese are Turkish, and all Japanese and Koreans are Northern Chinese, and all Filipinos are Spanish then why do we even bother to call them Vietnamese, Chinese, etc? WEll if you go that far back the first civilization was in Africa, so does that mean that I'm an African? If you go that far back we are all African. So get over your insecurities and just accept that you are what you are. I know its going to be hard because you have all convinced yourself that you are something else, but you need to stop posting this dumb speculation on this poll. You are Vietnamese. You are Filipino. You are CHinese. You are Indian. GET OVER IT.
