WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
Hapas, pure bred Asians, whites, and others should visit Hawaii (outside of the touristy areas) to see how their ethnicities can blend together in an almost seamless society. Hawaii should be looked upon as an example of how America could be. It's definitely got things it needs to improve on, but I think it's closer than anywhere else in the US.
Hapas, you wont feel alone there.
AM raised in Hawaii who has also lived on the east and west coasts

I am a hapa living in westminister, ca. and I always tell people of my ethnic makeup eventhough my mom tells me not to. She alway tells me that it's not a good thing for people to know that i am part asian because I might be discrimated against. That's far from true because most of my friends are white and asian and they seemed to embrace the fact I am a little of both. On a sad note, I am more attracted to asian women than white women and i don't get the time of day from asian women. They always tell me that they're not into whiteboys. It's just too sad that i looked too white and not asian enough to date them.

...Would these children be considered "Hapa"?
http://www.geocities.com/ebonyjadex
Or is Hapa specific term applied to a White/Asian(Hawaiian) mix? Is it considered derogatory by any means?
What are other names for Asian/Other Ethnic blends?

I've known a heck of alot of hapa guys while growing-up in Hawaii.
Rat doesn't know what he's talking about.
Jay... the hapa who knows

[One guy pretended he didn't even know what pancit was.]
I don't know what pancit is either.
But I do know what a "Bakla" is. *LOL*
I did hang w/ alot of Pinoys and half Pinoys in 6th grade and intermediate school. For the most part, though, most of my friends were local born or immigrant Chinese kids.
[My mom did a great job in exposing me to my asian heritage and I might be the only hapa from Maine who isn't embarrassed about my roots...]
Thank goodness!!!
[actually I might be the only hapa from Maine, period, lol.]
Thank God, I didn't grow-up in Maine.
Phew!!! Hick towns/cities in Texas don't seem so bad now. At least we've got Mexicans to add to the mix.
[I see what you mean about being a hapa female with no chances of getting "hapa booty"...I have had to make do with Italians and Latinos (and I'm not complaining)!]
I'd probably have to do the same if I were in your position. I seem a bit more attracted to part Italian/Latin females than to full Anglo ones.
I like the dark hair, slight tan/olive skin, and "less hairyness".
[Some are probably embarrassed to embrace their asian heritage...I have met two hapa males...both Filipino/Causcasian and both tried to underplay their "asianess".]
Glad to hear you took the effort to meet some hapa guys. You might want to take a pilgrimage to Hawaii one day and checkout the hapa guys there.
I wouldn't be surprised if your mother has some family on Oahu or Maui. Afterall, Filipinos make up at least 15% of Hawaii's population (the 2nd largest Asian ethnic group).
BTW- are you currently living in Maine? *shiver* *shake* *shiver*
Jay… the hapa; glad to be born/raised in Hawaii

"male hapas tend to look like pure-bred asians"
Hmm ... maybe my university is an exception? The majority look like Italians and a few like me get mistaken for light-skinned Arabs all the time. Other than my university I know very few mixed-race kids, so couldn't say for sure.

Jay,
I think you're right about hapas being more inclined to date whites out east since they probably associate more with them (being from the east coast) or find it more advantageous. Some are probably embarrassed to embrace their asian heritage...I have met two hapa males...both Filipino/Causcasian and both tried to underplay their "asianess". One guy pretended he didn't even know what pancit was.
Unfortunately in most of New England being asian is looked down upon. In Maine, where I grew up, anyone who even LOOKED remotely asian HAD to be Chinese! C'mon, ALL asians are chinese, right? There was a Chinese family in a nearby town who ran a take-out place and everybody just assumed that I was related to them. It used ti p*ss me off so much cuz I didn't even look like them. It wasn't so much the embarrassement that angered me but the sheer ignorance!
My mom did a great job in exposing me to my asian heritage and I might be the only hapa from Maine who isn't embarrassed about my roots...actually I might be the only hapa from Maine, period, lol. I see what you mean about being a hapa female with no chances of getting "hapa booty"...I have had to make do with Italians and Latinos (and I'm not complaining)!

cat,
it only seems to be that there are more
female than male hapas.-male hapas tend
to look like pure-bred asians.(one of
few exceptions is the son of john lennon
who looks like his father.)so will have
to ask the guys if they're hapa...
