WHAT YOU SAY

Hapas Are Asian Americans:

I disagree with you 100% on your position. Are you a Hapa? Because if you are and YOU choose to Identify YOURSELF as fully Asian American, then that is YOUR RIGHT. However, you cannot speak for all eurasians/hapas/people of mixed race!!! If you are NOT Hapa or of mixed race, then shut the HELL up because you don't know what it's like to be one of us.

I am a EurAsian who flat out refuses to disown his Caucasian side or his Asian side and will acknowledge both fully and 100%. I don't give a rat's ass how other people view my ethnicity. What's most important is how I view myself as an INDIVIDUAL, and that includes my ethnicity.

As for your comments about African Americans of mixed race, not all Mixed African Americans consider themselves to be fully black. Tiger Woods says he's CaBlaInAsian. Mélissa Howard of Real World New Orleans says she's Filipina AND Black. Chelsea Smith says black and white and refuses to be put into some kind of box by those who would claim to speak for the "African American Community." My own girlfriend Sandra is an Afro-Latina and she acknowledges both sides of her ancestry without reservation.

Lastly, not all White folks are racist and just because one White person targeted a Hapa doesn't mean that they all would. I've had to deal with White and Asian racists alike growing up, and as far as I'm concerned they can all to go Hell!

Hi cat,

I was just wondering, when you were in the Philippines, did you experience someone come up to you and ask if you want to be a model? My friend who is also an Amerasian has been receiving a lot offers to do commercial modeling. It just goes to show that hapas are generally accepted and sometimes are quite popular in the country.

"Hapas" should be considered Asian American.

Many African Americans are actually part white, yet they are often viewed as fully African American by other African Americans. In fact, many famous African Americans were actually part white -for example, Frederick Douglass. No one would ever question the fact that he should be considered African American.

Why should it be different within the Asian community?

After all, "hapas" often have to face the same prejudice that Asians have to put up with. This is because some whites see no difference between hapas and Asians. When they see hapas and Asians, they see only Asians. For example, in high school, I saw a hapa who was the target of a racial slur by a white racist.

Hapa acceptance in Asia. I would say that Male hapans are probably more accepted there than females. Males can probably find someone there to marry more easily. It seems to me that more Asian males are conservative than females.
