I get the feeling the more meat and dairy you eat the taller you become. Especially dairy. The one thing Asian-Americans gain in thier U.S. diets relative to diets back in Asia is dairy. Look at India. In south India people are shorter and thier diet is rich in rice and fish. In the north people are taller and thier diet relies heavily on dairy and bread. Look at Europe the tallest among them are the Scandinavians and they drink milk like water. Granted French eat lot of aged cheese but I think the dairy of milk has more benefit. So DRINK MILK!!!! And if it give you gas drink Lactaid 100, you'll find it at your grocery store.

"Taiwanese men from TAIWAN are short"-I don't know how you define "short." I also don't know if you have been to Taiwan lately. The older generation may be quite short, but you will notice lots of taller younger people (not unusual to see a young adult Taiwanese who is 5'10" and above).
Who Is Short?    Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 11:08:37 (PDT)
Chang,

True height is not everything and outgoing Filipino guys may attract white women.

But, is that some kind of token to get a white woman? We should not buy into this propaganda that an Asian male is not a "real male" unless he can "get" a white woman.

I know you were writing about the Taiwanese and Southern Chinese in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

I was just pointing out that the disparity between Southern Chinese, Taiwanese with Northern Chinese and Koreans almost disappears in the US with nutrition and exercise. I'm taller and bigger than quite a few Korean-American males, as well as some of my other Taiwanese-American friends (not saying all are taller and bigger, but it's not rare).

Yes, height is not everything and nor does it represent power. How tall is Bill Gates?
Taiwanese height    Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 11:00:23 (PDT)
well, If you read more CAREFULLY you would have noticed that I said Taiwanese men from TAIWAN are short (and they are, like HK men). No disputing that. As for various Asian groups in America? Well, everything is fair game when you've got the advanced nutrition and exercise oppurtunities that are abundant in the US. The same rules dont always apply, although you still see vague correlations (i.e. Northerners taller than Southerners). I've seen Korean guys here that were only 5-7, and Taiwanese Americans that are over 6 feet. I'm 181 cm, which is 5-11. But overall, I would say that North Chinese and Koreans are larger, even in North America. But hey, like Chang said, being tall isn't everything, even shorter guys get the girl (Altho I find his comment about white women pathetic.... why does he think that one can only measure ones manliness and reproductive success by the number of white women he meets? Asian women are our natural mates... it isnt absolutely necessary to find a white woman.)

You would be dead wrong to claim that most Taiwanese are short (5'6" and under). I am Taiwanese-American. I tend to find that the Taiwanese-Americans who grew up in America (due to the nutrition) are taller and bigger then the older generation Taiwanese and Taiwanese-Americans. In fact, I have many friends who are 5'10" and above and know quite a few over 6' and well built.

why are you guys so obsessed with height? Especially the Chinese and Korean guys here? Look, here in the USA, it is the puny little scrawny looking Filipino men who tend to go out and attract dates with white women more often. You see, height has nothing to do with manliness and attraction.
Chang    Sunday, October 14, 2001 at 12:48:41 (PDT)
I'm Chinese and am 6'2" tall. My family name in Chinese actually means "tall". Chinese have always been very tall. Only recently due to political upheaval, and poor nutrition, espicially in communist regimes have Chinese shrunk a bit.

This is sad since my family name goes on record, all the way back to very ancient times.

Also I'm attractive as well, according to all kinds of women, see no reason why many AF's have false preconceptions of their own.

oh yes, the aryan masters would be far taller, right? lol. Yes, nothing quite like the MASTER RACE. And in case you didn't notice, I'm being sarcastic. I believe taiwanese are taller than other south east asians. They're actually around the heights of koreans, though we must acknowledge that taiwanese are still Chinese.

The women in Korea are also quite tall. I think they average about 163-165 cm, which is 5-4 to 5-5. Basically, they are about as tall as the average white American woman. It's just that you see less individuals in the extremes, i.e. women that are 5'11 (180cm). Korean guys average about 170cm-178cm, which is 5-7 to 5-10. That is also on par with the American heigh average. The only difference is that Americans have much more upper body mass, making them look much larger in comparison, even with the same height.

dan,

I'm not so sure that Taiwanese average 178cm! I lived in Hong Kong for many years, and the guys there average about 5'6" or so. That's 168cm. I think Taiwanese are ethnically similar enough to Guang Dong Chinese to warrant height and physiotype comparison. Occaisionally I would see guys that were about 5'10, but of course like most Hong Kong men, they were very skinny. I stood a bit above average (173cm), and I am relatively short for a Korean. Most young Korean men average about 170-175cm or slightly taller. Although Korean men would still likely be considered slim by American standards, they are also significantly larger and more muscular than men in Hong Kong.

some other dood,

Are you another Euro-FOB who's here to spout some more rubbish about European superiority? Being lean has nothing to do with athletic performance, you doofus. Being lean just mean you're lean. Simple... it's the same principle as 1 + 1 = 2. Capiche?
What the f*** are you talking about?    Friday, October 12, 2001 at 17:41:48 (PDT)
some dood germany averages 175_180

well, this is fascinating...I'm not sure koreans are that tall. And I think the cut off mark for northern chinese may be a bit less than that. But from what I've seen, I must agree that only the northern Chinese seem to be in contention with Europeans in terms of height. 6'0 tall northern Chinese are actually relatively common. Japanese people are rather small for the most part. Occassionally, you'll see one reach the 5'11 mark, but those are quite rare.

ok.... all SE asians are short.... but does that include TAIWANESE!?!

taiwanese average around 173-178 cm! damnit! though i'm only 175 (5"9)
dan    Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 18:07:45 (PDT)
I'm of the Southern Chinese stock (Taiwanese who has Southern Chinese ancestry). I'm about 5'8" which I consider average or slightly above average for a Southern Chinese type. While my 2 full brothers are 6' and 5'11" but my father is about 5'5" to 5'6". I attribute the height disparity to the fact that I inherited my father's stockier frame (shorter extremities) and my dislike of milk. While I attribute my 2 brother's height to inheriting my mother's more proportionate extremities and drinking lots of milk.

I agree there are some tall Northern Chinese and Koreans (5'10" and above). But, I have also seen quite a few short Korean males (5'6" and under).
