WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
COBRA SAID
Yo GI Joe (Kanaka). You are a freakin' idiot
RESPONSE
And a good morning to you too!

COBRA SAID
What you are saying is that soldier boys are the most patriotic people in the country. WTF?
RESPONSE
Reasonable conclusion.

COBRA SAID
I love my country, but I don't have the desire to head on off to Iraq right now to show what a patriot I am.
RESPONSE
I guess you don't love your country that much.

COBRA SAID
And what about people who oppose war?
RESPONSE
They run to Canada like Bill Clinton did.

COBRA SAID
I pay taxes. My work pumps money into the economy.
RESPONSE
I do likewise.
COBRA SAID
I help the less fortunate.
RESPONSE
I do likewise.

COBRA SAID
I am a true American. I don't have to carry an M-16 to be a patriot.
RESPONSE
But I do. And do everything you claim to do as well. Which person is more patriotic? Me.

COBRA SAID
You are just pissed because Chinese have more clout in America than Japanese.
RESPONSE
Really? The USA TODAY and CNN tracks the Nikkei average and the Yen/dollar exchange rate. Japanese car manufacturers; Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc have plants in the United States...
Shall I go on?

COBRA SAID
When people think of Asians, they think of Chinese.
RESPONSE
Poll results? Or pulled out of your azz?

COBRA SAID
Japaneses only claim to fame is that they all got forced into internment camps. Boo hoo.
RESPONSE
Yes, boo hoo. Boo hoo to the tune of $20,000 to each of the 60,000 survivors. My taxpayers money and yours.

COBRA SAID
Other than that, no one gives a damn.
RESPONSE
See above.

COBRA SAID
Oh wow. So you think your whatever the hell infantry and crap is the most important event to happen to Asians in the past 100 years.
RESPONSE
Yes, thats what I think.

COBRA SAID
I have never even heard of whatever you are talking about (most likely because it is so insignificant), and am seriously doubting its validity.
RESPONSE
Check with TSJ and Penelope. They both have heard. How come you don't know?

COBRA SAID
Dude, if Chinese didn't come here in the first place, your slanty-eyed nip assses wouldn't even have been in the US military period.
RESPONSE
Crystal ball opinion. Noted. No response except to say that I am waiting for Penelope and TSJ to decry your racist words of "slanty-eyed nip". How bout it Penelope? TSJ?

COBRA SAID
Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Japanese will always be second fiddle to Chinese in America.
RESPONSE
Sure.

COBRA SAID
Shoot, these days, they are actually way down on the list. Viets and Filipinos have more power and numbers than the shrinking Japanese.
RESPONSE
Sure.

COBRA SAID
Reading your reponses to other posters, I can see that all you are doing is going in circles.
RESPONSE
Sure.

COBRA SAID
You call TSJ a racist who needs a "support group" when you are the one making the stupid remarks.
RESPONSE
Kinda like "slant-eyed nip"?!!

COBRA SAID
You cover up the fact that you are an old fart by whining about people attacking you instead of your dumb comments. Well, you know what? Your posts don't deserve to be responded to.
RESPONSE
Then how come you are responding to it when I am not worth it?

COBRA SAID
They are just a bunch of shallow nonsense. Obviously, you must have never taken a debate class, because attacking the person (ad hominem), is one of the most effective ways to break down the opposition.
RESPONSE
Really? When the going gets tough, the issue needs to be avoided and at last resort, it's is easier to personally attack? I get it now!

COBRA SAID
If the person is a moron, his arguments have no merit, right?
RESPONSE
Don't be so hard on yourself! I like you!

COBRA SAID
CASE CLOSED.
Cobra Commander
RESPONSE
1. You don't order the case is closed. I do that.
2. Notice I don't refer to you as "Cobra Commander" but simply as "Cobra". "Commander" is a senior officer in the Navy and has got there via at least 17 years of honest and faithful service. You have to earn that designation.

PENELOPE SAID
perhaps you would be interested to learn that CHINESE-americans lawyers assisted in, in practice, overturning the ruling of Korematsu in the Ninth Circuit. Asian Law Caucus, run by Chinese lawyers, heard of them?
RESPONSE
No. What are their names? Did you know that the Japanese American Citizens League took an active interest to gain the release of Wen Ho Lee?

PENELOPE SAID
they are also the ones representing Wen Ho Lee. you mentioned that Mr. Lee brings shame to the Chinese-Americans. what are your reasons for holding this opinion?
RESPONSE
Because as an Asian American, we are all susceptable to being considered likewise as sneaky.
RENELOPE SAID
in addition, please explain why his individual acts would reflect on the entire chinese-population? genetics, perhaps? the basis of your statement is very unclear to me.
RESPONSE
As I stated above. When a black guy does something wrong, the majority sees this as "typical" of those people and all of the blacks get the bum rap. (I'm not saying that this is right. I'm saying that this is reality).

About 3 years ago. Brian Uyesugi (AJA)killed several people in the XEROX location in Honolulu in a shooting spree. I was on a business trip in New Jersey at the time. Someone at the meeting, holding a USA Today, front page said "Hey, look at what your brother did"? (And I didn't even know that person who said that to me).

That person did not know I was from Hawaii or even my name. All he "knew" was the I and Uyesugi (hie face pic appeared on the front page) and I looked alike.

Now, when Timothy Mc Veigh does what he did, the white community does not get blamed for his crimes. But for us, its a different story.

PENELOPE SAID
by the way, you were the first to assume that fuck l.a. was referring to non-japanese.
RESPONSE
No. Read the original post again.

PENELOPE SAID:
you were the first to respond to him, and said something along the lines of, "do what i do. when a person in san gabriel valley speaks to me, usually chinese or japanese, i respond with "ching chong la" or something to that effect. it is not unreasonable for that to be interpreted as offensive.
RESPONSE:
No. Read the original post again.

PENELOPE SAID
you are most definitely an "elder" that i would have difficulty respecting.
RESPONSE
Fair. But do you respect Hello=)?

PENELOPE SAID
anyhow, it is pointless to continue arguing with you. to have any worthwhile discussion with you would entail educating you on the history of american and the current state of asian america. frankly, i don't think anyone has time to do that.
RESPONSE
Then, I guess that this is the last post we'll be hearing from you then.

PENELOPE SAID
one serious suggestion would be for you to read up on your own time. you never know what you might learn. your views may have to change, but that may not be such a bad thing considering you would be enlightening yourself. why die stupid? i certainly wouldn't want that to happen to a fellow asian-american
RESPONSE
And I have a suggestion for you too. Why live today and remain stupid?
San Diegan/Kanaka sansei    Friday, August 09, 2002 at 09:34:36 (PDT)
TSJ SAID
So, what I get from your response is that no matter how hard someone has worked for what he has, no matter much his people have suffered, and no matter how much sacrific he has gone through, someone in the military is more of an American than he is?! So, some punk who couldn't get into college who had to join the Marines is more of an American than a top flight CEO for a major company or a doctor?
RESPONSE
The issue is "patriotism" so the one who joined the Marines would have exhibited more patriotism.

TSJ SAID
Do you have stats proving that more Japanese are in the military than Chinese?
RESPONSE:
If you like, I can direct you to the AJA webpages of the 100s of AJAs by name who served in the 442nd. But it would be more overwhelming if you go to Little Tokyo and see the memorial of those 1000s of names for yourself.

Now, tell me where there is a similar memorial in Chinatown so I can go look.

TSJ SAID:
Chinese parents totally discourage their kids from joining the military because it is dangerous, and isn't considered a prestigious occupation.
RESPONSE:
I would bet that the motive was that the Chinese are only concerning with chasing the dollar, nothing else.

TSJ SAID:
Does that mean they are less American? (No need to answer because we all know what you are going to say, Uncle Sam-azaki.)
RESPONSE:
Of course. "Let the responsibilities of citizenship and the defense of this couontry be handles by others, not us" Is that not a reasonable interpretation?(a question only. Don't get bent)

TSJ SAID
Sixth generation European American parents discourage their kids from joining too. So they are less American than Japanese as well?
RESPONSE:
To answer this presupposes that your assertion is true. The majority of the folks in my unit are European American so what you say cannot be true.

TSJ SAID
Who the hell who has a decent brain would enlist in the Army when he could go to college?!
RESPONSE
West Point Military academy? United States Air Force Academy? Naval Acadamy? Wasn't Astronaut Onizuka a Major in the Air Force? Shinseki? West Point grad?

TSJ SAID:
Military people are the most patriotic, huh? I got two words for you:
TIMOTHY McVEIGH
RESPONSE:
LOL! And a convict could never have served in the military before? Yes, he is more patriotic than YOU.

TSJ SAID:
Hey, didn't you get your wish? Racist remarks in the first place are designed to elicit a racist remark in return. I'm the racist here? I don't go to Japantown talking in funny voices like you do in Chinese areas.
RESPONSE:
Do you go to folks like Hello=) and tall that person that to liken AJA with Nanking is also racist?

TSJ SAID:
I didn't say I didn't like Japanese Americans. I said I don't get along with any American born Asians. That is not a racist remark. I'm just saying they are not the type of people I associate with.
RESPONSE:
Really? So to predetermine who you will likle or not based on their status is not racist? Fair. Then what is is? Prejudice? Is prejudice better than racism?

TSJ SAID:
Oops... my bad. You Japanese Americans don't associate with anything that goes on in Japan, so the Rape of Nanking wasn't your fault, but if China did indeed pull a Hiroshima part II, it would be none of your biz, huh? Since you are such a proud American, when Japan is nuked to the depths of the sea, it won't mean anything to you, huh?
RESPONSE
Yes, your bad. This rambling makes no sense.

TSJ SAID:
Hey, ad hominems are the best. Why not attack the speaker? Words are only as good as the mouth it comes out of. We already shot down every single one of your petty arguments, yet you still think you are coming back strong with your weak circular reasoning. That will get you nowhere in the court of law. The tone you present is reminiscent of teenyboppers in AOL chatrooms.
RESPONSE:
Who is the judge of your success of "shooting me down". By the way, you mentioned a court of law. Which law school did you graduate from that qualifies you to make determinations of law?
TSJ SAID
Just because they speak Mandarin or Cantonese, it doesn't mean they don't know English. Unlike some nationalities, many Chinese like to keep their cultures alive. Yes, your words are very cheap.
RESPONSE
Do you have stats proving that "many" Chinese like to keep their cultures alive? And does "culture" mean "language"?

Yep. Cheap words, like everything that is made in China (this shouldn't offend you, seeing that you are a "patroitic American")
San Diegan/Kanaka sansei    Friday, August 09, 2002 at 09:02:51 (PDT)
C-WEB SAID:
Kanaka Sansei, this forum is to discuss the city of LA and not for you to spew this crazy "JA's are the most patriotic" propaganda.

RESPONSE:
I most certainly agree! So what kind of words, c-web do you have for Hello=)who said

"how typical of a japanese person to invade chinese territory only to attempt to assert japanese superiority.

you're eventually going to have to leave the san gabriel valley, just like your ancestors eventually had to leave nanking."

hello =) Thursday, July 11, 2002 at 11:58:23 (PDT)

C-WEB SAID:
Editor, why don't you edit and delete this nonsense?

RESPONSE:
Yes, editor, why did you allow this filth from Hello =) anyway?
San Diegan/Kanaka sansei    Friday, August 09, 2002 at 08:39:16 (PDT)

[Go back and read what c-web was responding to, some JA complaining about the prevalence of Chinese in the LA area. These digressions happen in small increments. When it becomes too extreme we are forced to take direct action. But Kanaka Sansei's tone seems to invite rebuttal. we will allow one from each of his correspondents before closing this chapter. --Ed.]
