WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
Asian Dominatrix,

I have to agree with you about looking white when getting the surgery.

All girls I know who got the surgery say "I want the eyes to look like ."

I've never met an asian girl who got the surgery saying "I wanted my eyes to look like ."

Most people who keep emphasizing the wannabe white theory have very little emperical knowledge of the situation.

Asian Aussie,

Before you get any permanent cosmetic surgery. You should go through extensive counseling. You should set some expectations. What if a double eyelid does not achieve the goals you want? Stuff like that should be sorted out first.

I've dated asian girls with natural single and double eyelids. I personally prefer single, even though I have double.

I even know a few girls who got the surgery. It didn't look natural in my opinion. They didn't become more confident or get more dates when we were in school.

To I is Woman,
I am Chinese and born in Canada. My husband was born in Vietnam but is chinese and moved to the states when he was one years old. My mom is from Hongkong and speaks cantonese and my dad was born in Canton, China and is Toisan. I speak cantonese.

Asian Aussie,
I would say to go for it. Infact the picture of the sample of before and afters on the surgeons' website that i'm gonna get my eyes done at, has one lid double and the other not. The results of her after picture was beautiful.

Why can't people with single lids be proud of the way they look? There is nothing inherently unattractive about a single lid. If you are unhappy with it and want to change it, then that's fine. I just don't understand why everyone thinks it's unattractive. I for one would never choose to date somenoe with a double lid over someone with a single lid. Who cares? It's the overall facial appearance that matters.

I think there is an almost equal ratio that exists among the Asian population between single and double lidded people.

Bingo! You've got it. I think the problem is that there are lots of idiots who think that because there are many Asians with the "monolid", that it is an exclusively western feature, whereas it is not. And I agree that the presence of a monolid or a double lid is not what determines beauty.

As far as surgery goes, I think that most people assume that Asians who want double lids are white "wannabes" because many of those folks do get surgery for double lids. I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with this assumption, but that's where it's coming from, just like people assume all Asians are foreigners because 70% do come from abroad.

Hi, I'm a full blooded Asian from Australia and I'm thinking of getting my eyelids changed to double eyelids. I know many people who want to have this done to look more Caucasian, but for me it is because one of my eyelids is a double eyelid and the other is a single eyelid. I have no idea how it happened, when I was younger my eyelids could alternate as to which eyelid could be a double, some days I could have two single eyelids and other days I could be lucky and have two double eyelids. I say the word lucky because I know that my single eyelidded eye looks more tired and unalert than my other eye. I am more comfortable with the way I look than when I was in my teens but I am still wanting to get the surgery done. Should I go through with this?

To Makeup Advice,
I would say not to apply mascara across the entire bottom lashes but only the center ones with a little mascara. The top though, put two coats on it...use black. I use Lash Discovery by Maybelline in Very Black. Make sure you curl them before the application of the mascara and after the application.
By the way, my eyeliner advice i wrote earlier is for people with tiny creases like mine. If you have a small crease but is hidden from your top lids it will work too. That is how mine almost is. If you don't have any crease at all, then i would suggest you to use some pastel colours on your upper lids and line right above your eyelashes with black, then follow by my mascara tips below.
