WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
I am a WF, and I think that Asian eyes are very pretty. That is the main feature that defines an Asian person's face, in my opinion. I don't want to put down people who have surgery, it's just that I don't think Asians should do it specifically to look "white," if that's why they are doing it. I mean, I don't know of any other race that has as much eyelid surgery. You like nice how you are. A lot of AFs who get this done are very young, and if they would wait a few years, I bet they wouldn't do it. As you get older, you learn to be more confident in yourself and your looks. Do single lids feel uncomfortable, or something? Is that why some people have surgery?
Asian eyes look nice to me.

Hi Gloria,
My website address is
http://pages.ivillage.com/strawberrywild/
I hope this time you are able to view it. My consultation for the eyelid surgery is in 5 days! I can't believe it! I'm flying to Toronto on Monday and Tuesday is the consultation! When I initially called to book the consultation, the lady told me that i will get my surgery within 2 weeks of my consultation...so basically in about 2 to 3 weeks from today i'll have my eyes done. I'm just hoping that it will heal enough for me to go in public in two weeks cause my trip to Toronto is only for 4 weeks. Anyway, I'm excited to see my family and friends! Haven't been there for a year and half.
I will definitely post here during my healing process. Thank God my parents have internet at their house. And i will even post the new me on my webpage when my eyelids have significantly healed.

Chicky poo,
you wrote about surgery: "Also, it just makes you less individual, don't you think?"
Ahh, doesn't giving your kids really common names like Ashley, Michael, Jennifer, Adam, Jessica etc make them less individual? Doesn't shopping at GAP and Banana Republic make one less individual? What about watching the same tv shows and movies as everyone else? Listening to the same music as every one else? See anything can pretty much make you less of an individual.
As for danger, sure there are risks but cosmetic surgery, when peformed under a qualified, competent, and very experienced surgeon, is pretty safe. The major danger is if you LIE about your weight or don't know and make it up and they give you the wrong amount of anesthesia b/c of it then that would be potentially fatal. But one is far more likely to die from being hit by a drunk driver while driving home on a friday or saturday night.
Cosmetic surgery enhances features. Modifying your nose, cheeks, eyes or whatever can actually make a big dramatic impact on the rest of the face beautifying it even more. No one wants to be uglier, ppl always want to look better it is just nature. Sure, make up can bring out and enhance features but if you have a big nose, or a small receding chin, sorry make up can fix those, sugery is what some ppl have to resort to do.

How does doing plastic surgery make you look less individual? If doing plastic surgery makes someone look and feel better, i'd say go for it. That is the reason people want to do it. It is not just for fun.
But you are right that some people do become obsessed with doing plastic surgery. Those people i agree need help. Those people constantly look for new areas to target their next surgery. But you have to realize that not all people are like that. Some people just want to change one thing. Before i'd never think about plastic surgery, but now i think it's not that big of a deal to change one feature of yourself. You are still you, and going under the knife will not change that. But your confidence can change in a positive way.

I guess if it's an obsession, you should just get as much information as possible, and talk to people who have had it done, research your surgeons carefully, and get it done if you must. But I think it's a waste of money unless you have been really disfigured in some accident. Changing your features structurally for non-functional purposes seems to be so dangerous, why would you want to let yourself be cut for no reason? Also, it just makes you less individual, don't you think?
