I agree with abc that Houston's "coming up pretty fast" and that there are "lots of asians." But it's not "summer year round" at all.

Outside of summer, which lasts 4 months or so, Houston's weather is close to averaging highs of 68 to 78.........really nice. Winters, spring and late fall are fairly gorgeous here.

I guess when it comes to Houston weather, the glass seems to be 1/3 empty rather than 2/3 full.

S.F. isn't a bad place to live in, my girlfriend is a stripper and she takes in about $1,500 a week, (On slow nights maybe $1,000).
That with my monthly salary of $4,200 as a security supervisor in a nightclub at the Soundfactory, we can afford to live in a loft South of Market for $2,800 a month. For the most part, you have to share the rent, food bill and utilities equally. this is the only way to live comfortable in this area of the Country.

hi people. im only 18 right now but was plannin to move up there in a few yrs for college and so on. but i've heard about the prices it cost for just single crappy room. which is near a grand a month, i think? its always been my dreams to live there but right now im thinking twice. i still live in houston and have been noticing in the past few yrs, h-town is comin up pretty fast. its cheap as hell to live here too. my friend pays 600 for a nice loft on weistimer, which is one of those happening streets. theres also alot of asian in houston, depending on which part of houston. so i say if any1 is palnnin on moving, houston might be a nice place to settle down. but the worst thing is the weather.its summer all yr round.

I live in in GA, Atlanta suburbs, and there' smore northern people in my town than southern natives.

But AS SOON AS you drive about 5 mins to the country side, you meet lovely hicks who love to stare at you and give you looks.

There aren't a lot of those hicks to bother you, just handful enough on the road to make you flinch when they act stupid.

I wouldn't say there's a lot of racism down here though. Haven't really experienced outright racism. It really depends on where you live.

Rice Roni, are you an SF native? For your information, I have been to GA and the south on an almost annual basis since the 70's. Racists and such are everywhere, if you don't believe me just go to San Bruno. FWIW, crosses have been burned out in Pleasanton and Antioch, as well. I'd much rather have a bigot tell me straight up he doesn't like me, rather than smile in my face, be all buddy-buddy and then stab me in the back. They don't have to necessarily be chaw-chewin', gun-totin' "trailer-trash", either. Hell, your worst enemy could be a nice, pleasant, clean-cut suit-wearing executive you see in the Financial District any workday. Ever notice how "nice and quiet" most serial killers are? Hey SF "Treat", I'll send you my Atlanta address when I move. It'll be coming from a 3-bedroom, 2-bath, 2-car garage HOUSE w/front & back yards and space for a deck & hot-tub, for no more than $100,000.

To rent a hole-in-the-wall or to own my own property to do as I please? Hmmm, that's a brain-buster, innt? LMFAO.

Oh, and I'll remember to send you a message in a bottle, when the Big One hits and CA becomes an island.

I myself being born and raised here in SF have seen this place turn to s---!! I don't think I could leave this town only because too many of my friends are still here and I like to travel to Tahoe alot. The only other places to move to are Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York. Like Rice Roni said, "Locals welcoming your presence".

Hey Realist and azn playa,
I'm totally with you. I still live in the area, but the fakey-ness in the population (esp. w/ a lot of Asian women) just makes me roll my eyes, often.
Don't totally agree on the Asian food sucking -- you just gotta do your research.
Still Here, Oh Well...    Sunday, August 05, 2001 at 22:43:07 (PDT)
The Realist,

oh, pretty please do keep us updated if and when you "move" to GA. We really, truly are concerned with your welfare. Just don't mind the occasional burning crosses on the lawn, and be sure to tack on an extra 30 minutes to your worktime commute because the local roads have been blocked off for the ku klutz klan march. And don't forget to let us know how the "friendly" (yeeee-hawwwww) locals "welcome" your presence (and I AIN'T only talking bout' the whites!!!). Oh, and don't forget to leave us your address, cuz they ain't gonna be no asian restaurants within 500 miles of your house, and we here in the "hellhole" of SF will be more than glad to fed ex you a plate of sweet and sour soup, LOL.

YEEEEE-HAWWWWWW

Dear realist:
I appreciate your input about SF, I'm an asian female searching for a place to live and I just moved to sf from Atlanta. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to stay because the housing seems to be astronomical among many other things.....and it's also REALLY cold here!! I'm not used to this cold windy foggy weather

realist, it would be really helpful for me if you can help me sort this out & offer some advice
tks!

I was born and raised right here in SF, and let me tell you, for the last few years this place is going straight to hell in a very large handbasket. Every negative comment made here has soem truth to it; the obscene housing prices/rents, crap traffic conditions (although it has lightened up SLIGHTLY since those dot.goners have left!), a cocky, arrogant mayor who lines his pockets with 'soft money', and the general populace just being plain rude. Most people here are fake, I see it every day. I just can't imagine what those who come out from the rest of the nation see positive in this God-forsaken town. It sucks mucho grande. I myself will be moving to GA very soon, at least the people there are more sincere, and I can buy a REAL HOUSE for the price of renting a damn hole-in-the-wall studio out here. When the next quake hits, there will be hell to pay.

SF can kiss my ass.

SF is a nice town with a lot of asains. But that is about it. Everything out here is to damn expensive and the nightlife here isn't all that great. Plus I found out that all the asain girls out here think they're all that. (especially the filipino girlz) But in reality the girlz are way better lookin in SOCAL.

I'm a Chinese-American from LA, now living in the Bay Area, and I must admit that Chinese food and Japanese food in SF does pretty much suck. Generally speaking, not every place of course. BUT, Chinese food in the Bay Area does compare well with LA, just not in SF. There are very good Chinese places in surrounding areas like Cupertino, Mountain View (go to Shanghai Taste delight for some damn authentic Shanghainese cuisine). I think these establishments are catered to primarily Chinese who have come to America more recently than a lot of our SF brethren. This is the same situation as in LA, where alot of the Asians are first generation and not third or fourth generation. Finally, just eat what you like.

Asians everywhere my ass. SF Bay Area is like the continuation of engineering school. 90% immigrant male and 10% female (and they're either ugly or are already married). Housing is expensive and is as crappy as hell. The only good thing about the bay area is the weather. Everything else sucks. I'm moving back to LA.

SF Chinese are the Guidos of Northern Cali. Territorial, narrow minded and a lack of class. These are the characteristics of both the Chinese by the bay and the Italians by the east coast. I am a Chinese from NYC and let me say that my fellow yellow brothers from the other side reminds me a lot of my pasta loving neighbors of Little Italy. Damn that sucks! And to that Chinese Uncle Tom dweeb, admit it already, Chinese Food in SF taste worse than vomit. SF's Old Chinatown is like some Chinese Disney Land and the restaurants there do cater to characters like Mickey Mouse who has his mouth close all the time.

Asians are taking over everywhere, all the white people moved to Pleasanton...too many Asian gangs in San Jose...schools are too overcrowded here...but I love the bay area anyway

I have to disagree, I think asians in the bay area are MORE receptive to other races/ethnicites than anywhere else in California (or the world, for that matter). In L.A. and NY, the races tend to be pretty much segregated regardless of all the multicultural bull. In S.F., we all pretty much get along. It ain't perfect, but for the rest of us living in this area it's Heaven on Earth.

To the person that thinks chinese food in S.F. sucks..YOU ARE AN IDIOT!! You must have been going to the places that only cater to white folks!!! or maybe when the waiter figured out that you were not chinese, they gave you the OTHER white meat. HA-HA-HA.....
You ignorant bananna, chinese uncle tom...

Re the question about Asiam SF natives, see comment from "6th year sf resident" below. Personally, the worst backstabbing I've ever experienced has been from the Asians who grew up here. Yeah, I know it's not good to oversimplify, but there!
