62% of Americans Disapprove of Trump Immigration Policies

Ugly Trump administration deportation policies have caused the percentage of Americans who view immigration favorably grow to 79%, according to the latest Gallup poll.

The ugliness of Trump's deportation efforts appear to have caused a reversal in American sentiments toward immigration, from trending downward during the Biden administration to turning positive since Trump took office.  As a result 79% of surveyed adults see immigration as good for the country.  Only 17% see immigration in a negative light, a record low percentage.

Only 35% of Americans approve of Trump's immigration policies while 62% disapprove, with 45% choosing "strongly disapprove." to a Gallup poll released Friday.

The share of Americans in favor of giving undocumented migrants a path to citizenship rose to 78%, up substantially from 70% in 2024.  Conversely, support declined 17% for increasing the number of border patrol agents while support for expanding the border wall fell 8 points to 45%.

The survey results suggest that the Trump campaign succeeded in painting migrants and immigration in a negative light but has been unable to put a positive spin on the actual effort at deporting migrants.

As deportations have progressed, more Americans are experiencing first-hand the impact that undocumented migrants have on the American workforce.  Images of unpicked crops rotting in fields while food prices soar, and the struggles of millions of small businesses like restaurants, gardening services and construction projects have added to an awareness that the US needs migrant labor to sustain its efficiency.
