Psy has enlisted Justin Bieber to appear on his next single expected out early next year, according to the British tabloid The Sun.
The duo are stablemates at manager Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy record label. Bieber was also one of the first major stars to express admiration for Psy’s “Gangnam Style” when it first went viral in August. Braun signed Psy — whose real name is Park Jae-sang — to a management and recording deal in early September. At that time he hinted at the possibility of a collaboration between the two.
“I cannot tell you about who it’s gonna be with, but I’m working with someone else right now and it’s going to be huge,” Psy has said about his next single. It has been described as a half-English, half-Korean tune.
Psy, 34, and Bieber, 18, hold the No. 1 and No. 2 positions on the list of all-time most viewed YouTube videos. Psy’s original “Gangnam Style” video, posted on July 15, had logged 723,556,065 views as of about 8:40 a.m. PST Wednesday while Bieber’s “Baby”, posted in December 2009, remained on top at 799,435,275 views.
At the current rate the two videos are accumulating views, Psy’s is projected to pass Bieber’s by early December.
Psy is already besting the teen heartthrob in other lists. He remains No. 1 on the Billboard Digital Hits chart for the 7th week and has been No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the 8th straight week while Bieber has slipped to No. 8. Psy’s top ranking on the Social 50 finally slipped to the second slot this week.
On Sunday Psy won the MTV European Music Award for Best Video. He’s also handicapped by People Magazine to win the New Media award this coming Sunday at the 40th American Music Awards.
