Korean Crew Sets Record with UK B-Boy Championship

Korean B-boy group The Jinjo Crew won the “World’s Best Crew” title at the U.K. B-Boy Championships in London on Sunday, reported JoongAng Ilbo.

The win gives The Jinjo Crew the distinction of being the first B-Boy team in the 30-year history of competitive break dancing to claim five major titles. During the past four years the team had won championships in the US, France and England.

The final competition in London was among eight teams from the US, Japan, UK, Spain, Belgium, Ukraine and Greece who had survived the qualifying rounds that began with 50 teams. The Jinjo Crew, normally comprising 15 dancers, sent its top eight dancers to battle against the other seven finalist teams.

Jinjo defeated Dead Prezz of Greece by a score of 3-0 in the quarterfinals in London, then repeated the shutout against Japan’s Found Nation in the semifinal. In the final Jinjo defeated Soul Mavericks, the UK’s home crew.

“There is no team that can stand on its own against the talents of Jinjo crew,” said Storm, a world-class B-boy who heads a troupe from Berlin.

B-boying or breakdancing is a form of street dance associated with hiphop culture. It involves executing a rapid succession of dance and acrobatic moves to a hiphop beat.

The UK B-Boy Championship, in its 17th year, is one of the world’s leading hip-hop dance competitions. The final competition in London is preceded by qualifying events around the world in which teams compete to represent their countries.
