This article is very well written and truly shows the evolutionary journey of the writer. This is a must read for all Asians who are either more comfortable with white America, Asian America, or some where in between. I relate to the writer's feeling of being seen as white-washed and then coming to terms with my identity as being Asian American.

Again with the SARS. I thought it had been dissipated already. Hmmmm, I guess not. I know it will take a while for the SARS to disappear.

Well basically this article is the same as the news reports I heard in the news. But of course as a Muslim I am happy that the hostages were released. In the first place they weren't suppose to be nagged. It's against Islamic doctrine, regardless of what all ya'll see and hear in the news. There are loads of Muslims like the ones in this article for example that do crazy crap and of course we get viewed as the "Worlds's Biggest Animals", loooool. I also learned that other Muslims in Iraq got involved to have the former Japanese hostages released as well. So that makes me feel good that they did that for them.

Conspiracy to Exclude???

...or maybe your ideas at work SUCK?! or maybe nobody likes your personality?!
..and are all asians who get along with white people "Token White"?
You're the racist, or at least paranoid. SOunds like you're not working at an asian-owned business, coz then you'd ALL be asian. Try getting a job in an asian business if your not asian. Good luck...

I understand that a lot of what is written on this website is written by asians, for asians, and that a lot of the comments might seem a bit exaggerated to a non-asian reader, but
to be honest, I’m really offended by some of the comments I’ve found here, like “Asians are more intelligent” and ”We should dominate in all fields” and “asian culture is superior” to name a couple of the worst.
Wow....what’s next? Master Race?! I’m hoping it’s a minority that feels that way.
I know I shouldn’t even bother writing (people are going to believe whatever makes them feel better about themselves) but as a non-asian immigrant to two different countries at different times in my life I can’t help but notice some serious misconceptions in a lot of the stuff I see here:
Asian woman: Forget that whole Viet Nam era thing about GI’s wanting submissive women, or white guys in general wanting obedient little geishas. That was decades ago (Plus I’ve got to admit I don’t find asian girls particularly submissive, which I think is a good thing for everyone). Most guys with “Yellow Fever” today are dorks, pure and simple. Wanting submissive women is not high on the agenda in the west anymore; societies have changed. If anything, I find many more asian guys in the market for the old-fashioned cook/sex slave. And I’ve met a lot of asian women who say they prefer non-asian guys for that very reason. You want the big, ugly reason for the “Asian women” topic being so contentious? Asian women generally think western guys are hotter than asian guys. Most women do....sorry

Racism: That’s a real easy card to play, but maybe some asians
should look at their own behavior: Why do so many asians seem to be happy not having anything to do with other ethnic groups? You think this doesn’t get obvious to everybody else after a while?! Calling “Racism” when you only hang out with other asians is pretty bizarre.
I had an ABC roommate whose friends made it a point to tell him “don’t invite your white friend” to their parties. What made the whole thing even more stupid was that said roommate was about as culturally asian as Britney Spears. But I guess as long as he was genetically asian he was OK. And this happened in San Francisco of all places. (Where, by the way, you can find quite a number of club nights that are “Korean Only” or “Chinese Only”) Racism, anyone? There’s enough to go around...
In fact, I’ve had more racist comments directed at me by asians than any other ethnic group. Now I’m not going to be so stupid as to claim complete color-blindness, but in my opinion WAY too many ethnic minorities see ‘racism’ when it’s really just ‘A-hole-ism’. The same people who make racial comments to you are the same people who make stupid comments about everybody else they don’t know, a different ethnicity just gives them an easy opening.

Asian culture: Sure it’s different, but so are so many other cultures, as you might realize if you look beyond your own ethnic group. I’ve had asian guys call me a “stupid whitey” when they don’t even speak an asian language (I speak 3 languages). Most of the anti-white asians I’ve met have been more mainstream american than I am, some even try to speak ebonics (seriously people...that’s too friggin funny for words). I started out with the impression that I might get along well with some asians because they knew what it was like to be between cultures. No luck; I was just another whitey to them. I’ve been around the world enough to realize that if I’m in a position where I stick out of the crowd, my best policy is to socialize, talk to people, smile, act like I’m interested to be there, hang out with the locals. And again, everywhere I’ve been, almost every asian traveller I’ve seen, AA’s or native A’s, has been in a group of other asians, and didn’t communicate with any other ethnicity or show any interest in doing so. Whatever the reasons for this, it comes off as arrogance, pure and simple.
It gets hard to accept the old “well, that’s asian culture” when people from many other cultures manage to communicate with each other just fine. If you insist on always being a part of an exclusive ethnic flock or claiming ‘cultural differences’, you shouldn’t be surprised when other people end up ignoring you. It’s not ‘racism’; it’s more like ”Why bother?!”
Again, do your homework before you whine. Immigrants have always had to adapt, and, historically, the children of immigrants often have a lot of cultural-identity problems, much more so than their parents, whose identities are already formed. Every immigrant group goes through this, whether they’re Croatian, Chilean, or Korean. This isn’t about “Whitewashing”, it’s about becoming part of a society where your culture is in the minority, regardless of your skin color. So many immigrant children take a few ethnic studies classes and get all culturally “aware” and end up trying to be more “Chinese” or “Hispanic” than their parents ever were.
Stick to the old ways too much and all you’re doing is marginalizing yourself.
Show a little more flexibility: Nobody’s asking you to grow a mullet or go on the Jerry Springer show......Unless you want to, of course.

And admit it: Wouldn’t it be an improvement on asian culture to try and adopt some of the best features of western culture? I’ve spoken to Taiwanese people who honestly just couldn’t understand how the west could be so far ahead of asia regarding politics, science, medicine, etc They just assumed that any culture that deviated so much from traditional asian culture just had to be somehow inferior and incapable of doing anything better. I guess they were wrong.....

Hollywood and TV: ....are both about $$$$!!!, not about making people feel good about themselves. So give the mass entertainment media a stereotype to sell and you’ll see more asians in the media. Or start your own studios. Do you think all white people sit around drooling over “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Home Improvement” because it represents their own lives?!
Most entertainment programming is aimed towards caucasians because THERE’S MORE OF THEM. Supply and Demand, look it up.
Think about it: So Chow Yun Fat didn’t get to make out with Mira Sorvino in “The Replacement Killers” ?? Boo-hoo. I’d still rather see CYF get work in an ‘OK” film than watch Van Damme get naked with some chick in another crap film.
Stop calling discrimination. There’s a limit to how many “Joy Luck Clubs” or “Crouching Tigers...” Hollywood can sell to the mainstream.
If you really want Hollywood and Burbank to represent all facets of asian-american culture start putting yourselves out there. Like I mentioned earlier, a lot of non-asian americans basically have the impression that asian-americans don’t really want to participate, so to speak. Asian culture can be pretty damned insular, so maybe give the rest of us something to relate to?

Finally, I’ve got to admit that I agree with a lot of the criticisms aimed at the US in general: The white guys with ‘yellow fever’, the assumption that all asians know karate, the trailer park mentality etc. But you know what? A lot of asians know even less about the west, and I’ve heard plenty of drunk asian guys talk about blondes with huge breasts, so let’s call it even.
And no, this isn’t the perfect place that so many americans like to believe it is. However, there must be a reason why so many of our ancestors or parents decided to come here from wherever they were born.

Don’t fall for the Politically Correct dogma and latch onto group thinking, it might feel comfortable, but it doesn’t get you very far.

Here's a very interesting webpage between India and China. I found it to strikingly almost the same in terms of culture, religion, and of course, the people. What I did not know is that acupuncture originated from India, and the Chinese were the recipients. Also, the name "China" not only came from the great Ch'in, but it also derived from some Hindu word. This is by far the most compelling historical fact for all Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Laos, Viets, Thais, Malaysians, Indonesians, Filipinos, Burmese, and Cambodians. I hope you AA's will read this stuff from the webpage I picked up.

Let me tell you something. There's no way that this will ever be resolved. It seems that these stubborned Iraqis won't quit. Now that Saddam Hussein had been captured, the world armies HAve to annihilate those terrorists and other terrorist groups.

Awesome story, it's good to hear of the Coreans being released after being held captive by the Shiites. This sure beats what happened to those American contractors along with all the hostilities against the U.S./European forces located there. I hope the Coreans keep much of their efforts in Iraq/Middle-East strictly humanitarian.

Hey, being Asian isn't always a bad thing! hehe :D

I am proud to be an AA. I just think that the U.S. should mind their own business between the Taiwanese and Mainlanders when it comes to this one-China policy. I really don't like the notion of a one-China policy, but eventually that will happen someday. Besides, many Han Chinese migrated to the island as well as the Gaoshans. Again, who or what am I to say. I still love the Chinese and Taiwanese, though not all.

I don't think that Af's are the only ones who date outside their race. Women of all races are doing so. This country "Is" a true melting pot. Any woman or a man is freely to choose whoever they want to. I know that there are some people out there who seriously or indefinately oppose mixed marriages in the USA. But, again, it's a free country.
