Chow Yun-Fat, Johnnie To to Collaborate on Action Flick
how Yun-fat and Johnnie To said Wednesday they are in talks to shoot a Hong Kong action movie together, with To saying he's cleared his schedule to make way for the rare collaboration.
The film would bring together one of Hong Kong's biggest action stars and one of the few local directors left to make the stylish action movies that the territory is known for.
Chow and To revealed the possible collaboration while attending a news conference for a short film competition.
``We're discussing the matter,'' Chow told reporters, adding that he was exercising regularly to get in shape for the movie.
To said his frequent co-director Wai Ka-fai is still working on the script, but that he hopes shooting can start next month, with filming to take place in Hong Kong and the neighboring gambling enclave of Macau. He wouldn't reveal the story or other actors cast in the movie.
To's assistant, Ding Yuin-shan, said in a phone interview that the movie is still in its early stages and that no contracts had been signed. He said the film didn't have a title yet.
Ding said earlier that To was in talks with French movie star Alain Delon about a possible collaboration, and that the director is working on the script for a remake of the 1970 French crime thriller ``The Red Circle'' with Paris-based StudioCanal.
To said Wednesday he's put both projects on hold to make way for the collaboration with Chow.
``I hope to shoot this movie with Chow first. I don't want to do anything else right now,'' he said, adding that ``The Red Circle'' remake has been postponed to next year.
Meanwhile, Chow said there isn't any bad blood between him and John Woo after he pulled out of Woo's Chinese-language historical epic ``Red Cliff'' at the last minute, although he appeared reluctant to discuss the matter.
``What could be wrong between the two of us?'' he asked.

While Chow said he pulled out of ``Red Cliff'' because he got the script late, filmmakers say they couldn't work with Chow because he made unreasonable demands.
Woo's producer, Terence Chang, said earlier the movie's Hollywood insurer opposed 73 clauses in Chow's contract.
The spat drew attention because Woo and Chow collaborated on the classic 1986 gangster classic ``A Better Tomorrow,'' which made Chow's gun-toting, trench coat-wearing character an icon.
Both Woo and Chow have since moved on to Hollywood to make American movies. Chow's credits include ``The Corruptor'' and ``Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.''
Chow said Wednesday he doesn't have any new Hollywood projects lined up.
To's recent credits include the gangster movies ``Election,'' ``Election 2'' and ``Mad Detective,'' which competed for the top Golden Lion prize at the recent Venice Film Festival. It lost to Ang Lee's new spy thriller ``Lust, Caution.''
