Is it possible to lose your ID and to find it later? Well, yes. I lost my passport once in a movie theatre and came back three days later. Everyone had seen my photo, so I was Almost Famous. I got the passport back, quipping, Thanks, did you know this document is worth at least 10 grand on the black market?

Seriously - I would think that anyone who lost their identity never had a strong sense of identity, that is to say, never had much of an identity in the first place. In other words, an identity rediscovered, is always an identity which has emerged, perhaps after much soul-searching, a variety of experiences and so on. In short, there is no identity rediscovered or recovered. There are identities found, but none lost.

I've sort of lost my identity. Through middle school and high school I completely refused to go out with asian girls, and I tried to ignore racism as if it didn't exist. Later, I just couldn't ignore it anymore and it was clear that there will always be prejudicial people. That's just how it is. I then decided to subscribe to an asian identity. It was nice but I felt pretty alienated and got rejected by my whole family because my first language was english. Then came the asian-american identity. I'm not sure what this monstrosity was except it was a mix of preference for asian friends while rejecting immigrants for their accents or other things. I don't think that was a real asian-american identity, really. Right now I'm confused and constantly considering and combating my own prejudices because I want to think I'm above those with their own about me. I want to be open and sort of reconcile my extreme attitudes into something that makes me a positive person.
