"Vietnamese are more Chinese than any body else in South East Asia."
I think Vietnamese are more Chinese than anybody besides Chinese themselves in ASIA. Our lauguages are both tonal and we share the same culture. We are closest in blood. We, Chinese and Vietnamese, should promote peace and friendship between our two countries.

Regarding to the term Indochina as Thuy Ngoc explained, that’s not true. When first European traders came to this peninsula in 15th century and landed in Da Nang, in the middle of Vietnam today in South China Sea, they mistakenly thought the people who lived there are Indonesians because of their similar cultures: Muslim. As a matter of fact, they were Champs. Champa was a nation in the middle of Vietnam and no longer existed because of Vietnamese invasion in 17th century. Some Europeans landed in northern coast of Vietnam and thought Vietnamese are Chinese because of the similar cultures between Vietnam and China. Just like when first Europeans came to America, they thought the local people were Indians like Asian Indians that they had known for centuries. That is why they have the term American Indians to distinguish Asian Indians.
Therefore, the Europeans came up with the name Indochina in which the peninsula was enriched by two greatest civilizations in Asia: India and China. When the French conquered this land, the name Indochina was often used for three nations under French colonial rule: Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Sometimes people call French Indochina. Even Cambodia and Laos are Buddhist states, but their Buddhist version, called Theravada, was from India. Vietnam, in contrast, her Buddhist version, called Mahayana, was from China. I would say a Vietnamese is three quarter of Chinese and one quarter is local, Vietnamese origin more or less. In another word, Vietnamese are more Chinese than any body else in South East Asia.

From where I am standing, I think that everyone have a certain beauty. Every race, every culture, every ethnic have beautiful people. Even the ones that arn't beautiful can be attractive, because of their personality or other attributes. Everyone are beautiful, when you get to know them and befriend with them.
As for asian pride. I do not think that it has anything with where you come from or what ancestry you decended from. It has to do with what you have accomplished as an asian.
Just for the record, I am viet/chinese, but I am told that there is also a little mongul and french in there too.
can't we all just get along?
