Sohoh:

there are more beautiful girls in Beijing than in Hong Kong? I would like to know where in Beijing they are, b/c I did not see too many of them when I was there. (Oh, I forgot, there was the beautiful lady at the airport who was sitting right beside me) Maybe 1% of the girls in Beijing are truly beautiful... in Hong Kong the percentage is at least 5%.

Actually, I've heard that the truly beautiful northern Chinese women are from some of the other provinces, such as Shanxi Province and Jilin Province. I heard they are very popular among HK businessmen... can anyone confirm this theory?

So the manchu ruled China during the Qing danasty. So what? So does the mongol and a bunch of other non-chinese people. It's not uncommon for the beast-like backward people to rule the far more civilied people, especually when the civilized peole were in internal turmoil. The manchu were just the lastest of a serial of bararians who plundered China. They had just gotten out of the stone age and had no culture whatsoever. Before getting sinisized, they ate raw meat and didn't know how to count their ages. They were just sub-human. They sneaked into China when the Ming danasty was in turmoil. However, eventually it's the supremacy of the Chinese civilazation prevails.

Cantonese... I have no problem with. They were civilized long before the Manchu knew how to count their ages. They have a sophisicated culture. They are more Chinese than the Manchu are. Besides, without Dr. Sun's heroic overthrowing of the shamelessly corrupt Manchu rule, we would still be enslaved by those Manchu parasites and be forced to wear those ugly Manchu style pigtails -- the ugliest hair style known to human.

Who cares -- northern chinese, manchurian, or cantonese. there are tall cantonese and tall beijing chinese. Sometimes I think the chinese are so divided its hopeless.

btw N. Chinese,
I myself am Cantonese and I am 6'3" -- an I am definitely not thin (I drank my milk). My brother is 6' 1" and many of my cantonese friends range from 5' 10" to 6' plus. I have northern chinese friends too and they have a similar range. Let's cut this hate crap and play some basketball ok?

N.CHinese,

CHEH~ very very wrong. Have u ever looked at a map of china proper? And dynasties territory limits? rarely included manchuria. Tough weather does not breed tall people, look at the inuit. They are a short people. And me not a cantonese lover person, I like north chinese people, but traditionally, your manchurian people are not recorded as tall. I dont know why you would think your people are tall. I have seen many documentaries that go to manchuria and mongolia with a hongkong celebrity (originate from shanghai) e.g. Kelly Chen "5'8" and a beijing man, who was around 6'3 that went touring in the harsh lands of manchuria/mongolia. The people were no more than 5'7 for men. They were all stocky , dark and short. They showed a great number of people, the buildings were too short for kelly chen to make her way through to visit the people.

MK,
Can you please explain the manchurian/mongolian influence in the dynasties?

Hey Sohoh

Wow, there sure are a lot of Manchurians in here...I'm really surprised. Why? Because even in Manchuria, ethnic Manchurians constitute fewer than 3 percent of the population. How likely is it that there are so many beijing people who are half manchurian? I'm sorry, but it seems alot of them are jumping the manchurian band wagon just to be more northern. maybe they are attracted to manchurian features. I expect that these considerations are far exaggerated. Rather, it's far more believable if they were only an eigth ethnic manchurian, or simply half manchurian hans. The majority of dongbei's population is made up of Shandong immigrants, as well as those from other northern provinces such as Hebei. I believe this because I have several relatives in such places as liaoning, even heilongjiang, and they're descendents of shandong and tianjin immigrants.

Dear Sohoh:

You confused me again. I feel that we have a communication barrier here. Please explain everything you just said in your last comment to me like I'm a two year old. You must have been speaking Cantonese:) You said something about cats and dogs?????? :) I thought you would be really short because you are from Guangdong. But now I feel that I like you more since you are from Guangdog(I think that's a zoo), they have some very tall creatures there. (elephants...ect..)

P.S- I'm taller than you and your 4 legs combined. I'm 5'5..17yrs old.

I live in Paris and right now, there are a lot of Chinese people from Mandchuria (Liaoning, Helonjiang Shandong) or Dongbei like they are called here who freshly immigrated in France. They (the Dongbei people) have a very bad reputation here in Paris compared to Cantonese or Teochew from South East Asia. They have a reputation of being lazy and lacking business acumen. They don't know how to adapt themselves to the French society and they usually end up working in sweatshops belonging to Cantonese people. They are not as tall or beautiful as most people here seem to believe. Some are even very short and ugly so please stop talking about Dongbei people as if they are the most beautiful people of China.

All you Manchus, Cantonese and Beijingers are puny compared to us Lower Northwest Tibetans. I stand 9 foot 3 and dwarf all of you. We are as tall as the Himalayas themselves.

Bad weather, thin air, long winters, plus a steady diet of yak meat makes us Lower Northwestern Tibetans hardy, tough and muscular. I can tear into mountain rock with my bare hands. I've wrestled yetis to the ground and thrown boulders miles into the sky.

And we are serene. Our Buddhist background makes us contemplative and wise. While you Han-chu-canto-jingers argue about who is taller than who. We Lower Northwestern Tibetans rest happy and content knowing that truly we are the giants among all men.

I'm Short in Tibet (but my Mom is 9'9!!!)    Friday, March 01, 2002 at 10:38:46 (PST)
Sohhoh,

You need to get a grasp on reality. Manchurians are short? That's a lie. No one is shorter than the Cantonese in China. The Manchurians and Mongolians are a tall people. Not only are they tall, but they are also generally well-built and stocky. You are a goddamn liar.

Anyways, my family is half Northern Han and half Manchu. Do you think Northern Hans feel more connection to you Cantonese than to Manchurians?? We Manchurians have long been Chinese, and so has many other minorities, who are you, some short Cantonese going to tell me what I am? Cantonese are almost like a foreign group to the Northern Han people, and many don't like how Cantonese act, and their language. You don't even know what you're talking about.

Anyways, a Manchurian like me standing 6'3 easily drwarfs the great majority of Cantonese. Manchus are a tough, stocky and tall people. Get in touch with reality. Tough weather breeds tough people, and Manchuria has the harshest weather in China.

Manchurian Princess,

You stated that in beijing many girls are from manchu descent and I said beijing girls were beautiful and tall, well I do not mean the MANCHU girls, I meant the han chinese beijing people. If I said the east indians were tall and pretty, I dont mean the british immigrant that lives over there. And I have checked many heliong jiang descent celebrities that make it big in beijing, well , they arent that tall.

what's all this hype?,

Well beijing people arent like cats and dogs with hongkong people. Maybe a cat could look like a dog? Oh yeah, Leon Lai pretty tall guy at 6ft~ And most beijing people are not of manchu descent, during the ming dynasty, thousands of han chinese from LuoYang, Chang An , moved to the defensive fort that was changed to the capital of china for it's convenience. People there are pretty tall because of the tall Han immigrants.

MK,
The Yuan dynasty was not a prosperous time you know~~ It was also partly our fault to be so cocky.
And there is something as "pure" han.
You could be qualified if your peoples were in the chinese empires grasp traditionally. The Ching dynasty was ruled by manchurians, which made china the laughing stock of the world. Not too good mm?
