Kashgar,

Nice photos! Actually, the photos of the first Uygur family do look Han Chinese, while the second older Uygur man looks completely Middle Eastern. I have been to Xinjiang and the there are variances. Some you will see completely Chinese looking faces, some you will see completely Irano-Afghani types and then there are those you fall between. On the whole, they are a handsome and pretty race.

I am sure the Han Chinese in the past must have mixed to some degree with the inhabitants here, more so than they did with Manchus, Mongols and Koreans.

Ms.Mo (sohoh)

I'm just wondering, could you please stop arguing about this? You're making yourself sound pig-headed, prejudiced, rude and well...kind of mean to Manchurians. I'm sorry you feel that they're ugly, but we get the point now. There's no reason to keep going about how lowly they are and how they shouldn't consider themselves chinese.

Ms.Mo(Sohoh)(Saddest person!)
You are so narrow minded. Don't blame everything on the Manchurians. Even though I m not a Manchu, I got a problem with your narrow minded attitude. I think you are the kinda person who will never find a boyfriend, cuz your ideal boyfriend is something you can never have. Are you a loner? Does anyone love you? Do you have a life? I guess all the answers are NO. Why did I made that assumption? Base on your comments, I can tell what kind of person you are and what your personality will lead your life into. There is still hope; Open up your eye and crack open that little narrow mind and slowly your dream will come true. One more thing, Shanghai is really beautiful.

To Angelique:
I love this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehe..(:You have such a good sense of humor~~~:) Can you write one about Machurians for me...?

Your majesty's praise flatters me.
I would be happy to write a post for you regarding Manchurians, but please remember that my original post was meant to be "tongue-in-cheek" and a way to kind of laugh about all this discussion of who is taller, prettier, or smarter than who.

This is meant as a light-hearted joke, so all you Manchurians or 1/2 Manchurians please don't be upset (I love all my Chinese brothers and sisters.)

ODE TO THE MANCHU PRINCESS

From the Northern frost, where steppe runs into night.
Atilla's distant child, sired by Nurhachi and the Kubla Khan.
Son of Heaven's daughter, atop the Dragon Throne in yellow robes now crimson red. Pretender.
Nomad-lady, poet who can only speak
with script like a twisted stick.
Your fathers, tall as the sky, trembling the earth they rode upon Cathay as Lords in shepard's furs.
Warriors all, but shod in a woman's hair, braids like a young girl running
as a horse's mane.
Your eyes are proud and black with the
glow of a cavalry Queen.
Lady of Manchuria. But Manchuria lost. Adrift in the mind of Pu-yi, engulfed
by the rising sun.
Now. Han feasts, Han words, Han script,
and even Han Lords.
Princess, are you Manchu still?

Truesino-

The Chinese fell under the power of the Mongol horde, because quite simply the Mongols had a superior military doctrine, not because the Mongols "stole" Chinese culture against them. The Mongols were outnumbered and had inferior technology, but they still won, simply because of their superior insights on how to wage a war. The Mongols would "steal" chinese culture AFTER winning--effectively becoming a Chinese.

You think the emperor of Han was really good to his subjects? Or when Han army went around China quelling peasant uprisings or invading new territories, they had more regard for human life?
If you really believe that, you must be a religious individual.

China never needed foreigners? Chinese history spans 5 thousand years. But before that, you think someone in southern part of the land would have a particular empathy or belonging to the people in the north? Or if I agree with you about the definition of being Chinese is exclusive to being Han--then China has no business in Tibet. Or tell me, are the Tibetans Chinese or the subjugated minority of China?

If the Mings were so weak that they would lose wars against the "barbarian" Manchus, how much worse would they fair against European muskets!

I"m not debating that the Manchu rule wasn't all glorious. All I'm saying is please show me how the Manchu rule was any WORSE.
