Here's a recent news report about diet and health in E.Asia:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/ asia-pacific/newsid_1885000/1885119.stm
Of particular note is that in Taiwan, 3 times as many people died of diabetes (which is related to obesity) in 2000 than in 1986, while people dying of cancer doubled in the same period. Quite shocking.
But I guess it's all a small price to pay for increased height (the argument being that increasing height in Asia is at least in part related to higher fat/protein diet, viz fast food, the food of choice in America and the West).

Beijing Angelique,
That's probably true actually, about China having really tall models. I've read an article on the net about them. It's not that uncommon. Just because you're average height, doesn't mean everyone is. China has over 1 billion people, tall people are bound to occur.

A-Man,
Yoga and Pilates have been known to increase height since they tend to straighten the spine. But the results vary greatly from person to person. At a local Y.M.C.A., they said that up to 2" is possible. I don't know how scientific that is, but it sounded credible to me.

A-man,
Those height-increase products on the internet don't work. They are a scam. I knew someone who bought it when he was in his mid-20s, but it never worked. The only way to grow taller is:
1) If you're still growing (up to around 18 years old for most people), eat healthy and live healthy.
If you're past the growing years, then
2) Wear elevator shoes.
3) Have surgical procedure to lenghten your legs.

Korean american guy feeling happy with his size..,
Nice post, but one thing I dissagree with you... Koreans and Chinese people are freakishly tall. The Chinese women in particular, 6ft1 models! You can only find that in the home country!

i really think asians should eat alot more to reach our growth potential. see how many over-weight ppl there are from other races(blacks, whites, mexicans)? that suggests that their nutrions are over-loaded, surpassing their height grow. now, i can see asians becoming taller and taller, especially among the younger generation. but they are often tooo slim despite the fact that they are tall.
i really think that if we were to eat just as much as other races do, we could surpass the average-size of any other races! because of our flexable bone structure.

I am 5'8 tall. I live in NYC. When I am in Queens I feel as if most people are around my height. Most spanish guys are about my height or shorter and even the white guys are about my size too. (mostly Italians and Irish)
Asian guys are getting taller because if you look at the younger generation they are all around 5'9 to 5'11. The girls are either as tall as me or taller.BUt, when I go to the city it is more like half and half. It is weird but you see a guy who is like 6'7 and then you see a guy who is 5'4. Asian people as a whole I think are medium height. We are not too tall but we are not too short either but just in the middle. I think for most people for most race are in the middle height range. So if you are a guy and is about 5'8 to 5'10 you are just typical. For a girl it would be more like 5'4 range. Most asian are with in this range.
