To Bebegirl and kindatall_azn_girl,
I am so HAPPY to hear that there are tall Asian princesses! Please stand tall and enjoy your tallness. And please DO NOT slouch while walking to look shorter. That is very unattractive. Please walk straight and show your stuff!
I love Indy's attitude, you go gal!

5'5"-5'6" is around average height for most American women when you incorporate all ethnic groups. While some guys really like petite women under 5'2" tall, others like women of medium or even tall height, even if the women are taller than they are.
I'm 5'10", which is on the tall end of average for men. While my wife, who is Asian American, is 5'5" but when she wears heels, she looks around 5'6"-7". True, she is shorter than me, but she is taller than many Asian women and some White women whom we know. Her dad is of Northern Chinese ancestry and he's the same height as me. Her mom is of Soutern Chinese ancestry and she is 5'0" tall. She ended up somewhere in the middle.
She never let her height relative to other Asian Americans faze her when she was younger--she dated tall Asian and White men, as well as some men who were close to her height. She basically said it was good to be taller becase it made people look up to her.
You should use your height to your advatange (i.e. intimidate short people who give you grief, stand up to your full height when confronted, perhaps consider modeling or swimming competitively, etc.) instead of lamenting it. There are plenty of Asian and White men who are 5'10" and taller who would probably want to date you because of who you are, and the fact that they wouldn't have to hurt their necks to kiss you would be a bonus.

It's weird, when I measure myself at home I'm 5'5", but when one of my doctor measure me, he said that I'm 5'6.6", do you all measure with one of those rolling measuring tape that they use to measure to make clothes? It seem like most of the AA guys when I was in high school and now in college seem so short, hehehe, I guess vietnamese people are shorter in general. I seen that korean, japanese, and chinese seem to be taller on average. What's the average height for the differenet ethnicity?

"the Washington Post, a world-renowned newspaper"
*snickering* and by who's standard? until the NY TIMES publish something credible about china's "eugenics program" with groundbreaking news coverage worthy of the pulitzer prizes it won, wash. post is mediocre at best.

i don't really have time for these political arguements, and you're on the wrong board as well. take it to a political board on goldsea.com.
"There are plenty of Asian American Republicans and consertives."
and i already dislike everyone of them. there's a good reason why democrats are called the party of the minorities.
as for all your links. everything except scientific american already discredit themselves. from your right-wing zealots to the state department have their own agendas about china. i've yet to hear anything positive about china on the news or from the state department, which leads me to believe they want to set up china as the next soviet union.
now i agree with you that china got human rights problems and lots of other problems like environmental disaster after cutting down trees and the desert encroaching its cities along with rampant poverty for displaced farmers. this doesn't mean it got a eugenics program trying to wipe out certain populations. 1.3 billion people will cause you lots of problems, and it's easy for couch-human-rights-activists/critics like you to condemn china but you probably don't understand all the issues here.
with this in mind, i want to say that the scientific american article is very ethnocentric. but the quotation from that article explains better than you do.
"is unclear how the Chinese law is being implemented. In a country where millions of female children vanish--presumably killed--and many children with developmental abnormalities are left to die, the law might represent an improvement"
"Few Westerners have an appreciation of the magnitude of the population problem China is trying to come to grips with"
because china still lacks in medical technology, all those "premie-babies" with birth defects can't be saved. since the one-child policy applies, people have to "economize" childbearing or stuck with huge medical/social expenses trying to raise children with genetic conditions. not many chinese have the will or economy to support these children, and the article already states that they get thrown away because of the expenses. i think this law, if it is advisory ONLY, is much more sensible than to have children thrown out. in the west, there are debates now to abort fetuses that are known to have genetic conditions from in-vitro. the point should be more, do you agree with this philosophy to abort fetuses with known genetic defects, or do you just have babies left and right regardless of known genetic conditions and pay the expenses regardless? and more importantly, do you have the endless money to keep having babies and support them that got genetic conditions given limited resources?
and before you question my loyalty, i've sworn to uphold and protect the consitution of the united states and am registered with selective services.

Indy,
Why let "short guys determine your self esteem"? Heh, that's a new one.
You're 5'6 but hoping to grow taller? But you say that such envy is a big circle that gets you nowhere?
Then I guess you like going in circles?

Angelique,
If 5'6 is the perfect height for girls, in particular Asian girls, then what is their perfect weight at 5'6? Bust? Waist?..
What is the perfect height for guys, in particular, Asian guys?

Indy,
Your friend who is 5'7 envies a girl 5'10? Unless your friend is a model, wants to be a model, plays volleyball or basketball, not many girls want to to be 5'10 giants.

Re: kindatall_azn_girl
Everyone I know wants to be taller, asians that is. I, myself stand at a petite build at 5"3, and truthfully, it sucks!
I would give anything to be your height...although I'd rather be even taller than that...5"10 or so if you will.
I just feel that there are more opportunities (don't bash me on this, just an opinion) for taller people. Even helps you psychologically. I read an article on the web claiming that taller people even get PAID more at work...I wish I could find it, but I didn't bookmark the page.
It's just too bad there isnt' a remedy for this. As opposed to the temporary cures for acne, enhancing features (makeup) and so on.
This isn't to say that short GUYS don't have their own problems. I believe in general with the usual exceptions, girls prefer men who are taller. Makes them feel protected. Well, I suppose I can only speak for myself. My beau is 5"8-9, and most of the time, I don't feel like it's enough.
Cheers.
