chinatown,

I want to thank you for the courtesy to answer my questions. Here are my comments.

1) Have you noticed a highly disproportionate ratio of males/females, especially in the rural areas?

According to China's 2000 census, there were 117 boys born for every 100 girls. This means 53.9% of births were male, which is a fairly mild offset. But this is only for one year. The male/female birth ratio was pretty even before the late 70's and during the mid-80s, and most of the 90s the ratio was a little below 117:100. So, on a nationwide scale, the overall male population should be a slight offset of a little below 53.0%. Therefore, your emperical observations seem accurate.

2) Have you ever witnessed female infanticide?

I know people who lived in China who have witnessed it. Unfortunately, it still takes place in the 21st century.

3) How often have you read articles in the Chinese media criticizing the Chinese government.

My intent for this question was to counter the claim that only the United States government is biased, when the Chinese government can also be biased.
I'm not going into which government is better.

It is the gender imbalance which made me suspect that average height could be increased, along with using economic power to place another barrier against shorter citizens. I already posted my ideas, and there's certainly no need to reiterate it. You're right, it's subjective, and doing the research to extract the data of corelation between height and gender imbalances would take astronomical resources.

I know this is very complex, but you asked for my honest opinion, and these are my honest thoughts. I don't intend to pursue this topic anymore, unless asked.

Okay anthropology student, I did go overboard on my last letter with you. The reason - our endless exchanges of words was getting personal. I've seen many personal attacks on various forums; you know, one letter in exchange for another, slowly building up into personal attacks on each other.

I don't like to waste time. I figure, if we keep bickering, then what the heck - just get right to the point with the personal attacks. It takes a day for the Goldsea editors to review and publish a letter, so one day per letter amounts to alot of lost time. I was just thinking, rather than dragging along another week or so, let's just get right to it.

We obviously have different views on different topics, and I don't expect us to be in harmony. And we're both guilty of making premature assumptions of each other. But then again, this is the internet, and we're both strangers who can't see each other and don't know each other.

This is what I was thinking, and these are my opinions.

curious,

..I don't know, I'm a man, and a lot of models look pretty good.. I see curves in the right places. But I also agree there are many models who are stick thin with little curvature to their physical form.

It's all in the waist and hips.. the curves, that is..
