villageidiot (or anthropology student),
So now I know where "villageidiot", aka "anthropology student", is coming from. Occasionally (but rarely), I use other aliases as well. In the "Favorite AA authors & books" forum, that's me with the alias "yes", who criticized the Joy Luck Club recently for being unfair to AMs. I chose to use another name for the time being until this heated issue died down.
I've read your posts in other forums, and there are some things we do have in common. Calm down, I'm not anti-Asian. I'm Asian myself, and I do like to see Asian-Asians and Asian-Americans progress forward, both male and female. And I'm all for a stronger Asian community.

I guess "anthropology student" and "villageidiot" are the same. It's pretty convienent how we can choose any alias. Now that my name is associated as a China-hater by some, I have this to clear it up. Hopefully, I can keep posting with my name and not have that pre-judged label on me.
"judge not lest ye be judged."
Well, for those of you who thought the US' criticism of China's human rights record was harsh and judgemental (www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2000/eap/684.htm), I just want to inform you that China did reply with a human rights record of the United States. My intention was not to bash on China, but to bring light to certain injustices.

China's report criticizes the US in these areas.
1) Injustices in the American democratic/voting system.
2) Rampant gun violence not seen in any country during peace, and cruel prison conditions.
3) The damage of poverty, and workers' rights violated.
4) Hardships and discrimination of women and children.
5) Racial discrimination, particularly against Black Americans.
6) Crimes committed by American military personel overseas.
So now we all know that no country is perfect.

Preferance for tallness in this country began with the early modeling/fashion industry (learned this in college by the way). As time progressed, their ideas infiltrated other industries, forming the "tall preferance" in American culture today. But before this industry, being tall was frowned upon. It was once perceived as clumsy and physically unstable. You can see evidence of this by looking at very old advertisements and watching American films from the early 1900s where the Anglo men were fascinated by small feet and dainty Anglo women.
Personally, I prefer guys who are NOT tall. They just look better, appear stronger and more physically stable.

"I don't like to waste time. I figure, if we keep bickering, then what the heck - just get right to the point with the personal attacks."
and why would you want to start (and assume) debates with people who don't know how to conduct themselves in an argument? like i've said before, i thought at first you were misguided about china, but then i realized you have your own agendas, and you're entitled to your own opinions of course, but i won't validate them. until you walk a mile in somebody's shoes, buddy, don't judge. we don't have to condone westernized ideals of "immoral behavior" but i think a very wise man said "judge not lest ye be judged."

Po:
Exactly.
I totally agree with you about how people associate height with maturity. I've never thought about it that way...but it makes sense.
Good point.
That's why I want a guy who is at least taller than me. If he's shorter than me...then I would always think of him as a younger brother or something like that even if he's older than me.
I'm not saying that I can never be attracted to guys who are shorter than me. I have been in fact. But hot guys who are shorter than me would be more "cute" to me where as a good looking guy taller than me would be "handsome".
I will marry a handsome guy someday.
"A corollary to men and height is women and thinness. The underlying basis for female attractiveness is fertility expressed symbolically."
I like how you worded that. I agree. But... I feel that the basis for female attractiveness doesn't even really have to go as far as fertility. It's really just feminicity and sexuality. Things that are specific to a gender will always be criterions of attractiveness for that gender whether is has to do with fertility or not. Breasts...if men had breasts also then nobody would care about the size of bra a woman wears.
