Well, if 70% of the guys in Taiwan were taller than 5"10, what would be the average height? 5-11, 6-0? Of course that isn´t true! It would equal countries like Sweden, Danmark, and approach numbers like those of Holland, which is the country with the tallest people in the world. I´m a portuguese college student (do you know where is Portugal?), and sometimes, although i´m 5"10, i also get the impression i´m short, but i know that that isn´t true... the national average for people of my age is around 5"9 (the same as Spain, Italy, Greece, etc... well, in northern Italy i can assume they´re taller...). That happens to people that wish they were taller. Just go around your school, town or shopping mall and count the peeps that are shorter than you compared with those that are taller... you´ll see!

dan,

If you say, "around 70% of the guys around my age(20) are above 5"10 in Taiwan", that would suggest (according to your statement) the average height of Taiwanese males around age 20 is 5'11" to 6'0" (closer to 6'0").

Is this true? If not, please clarify the average height of Taiwanese males around age 20, based on your experiences. I'm not discrediting your statements. Actualy, I'm asking you for your expertise, because I haven't been to Taiwan.

now you're actually talking sense. "human rights" have always been used as a political tool to fling cheap shots at one another. you're really buying into the propaganda machine if you think US criticism of china are all legitimate. no country is perfect, but i choose to stay in the US over any other anytime anyday. oh yeah, i'm also the one who started the asians in the US military post because i'm seriously considering it right now.

p.s. taller stature may be associated with maturity, but shorter stature is associated with youth. And many cultures have long been fixated with youth ("fountain of youth," "eternal youth," "greek men preferred "boys" in greco-roman times," .......)
