Village Idoit:
"you first set out to bash us AM in the divide board"
Suffering from amnesia? I thought we have discussed this before. I DARE you to prove how I have bashed AM. For some reason, I have this feeling that you wont find any evidence. Please, prove me wrong.
"now you want to bash about soy-products."
Lacking comprehension skills? I was questioning the validity of scientific claims, not soy products! Let me try again...I'm interested in seeing how you would misconstrue my intentions this time.
One thing I do agree with you is that soy is nutritious and has proved to be beneficial for our health (asian history can tell us this). The danger in soy is when hazardous chemicals and substances find its way to the factory produced soy products. These manufactures are relunctant to acknowledge this, b/c they need to keep their sales up. I'm not saying that all soy products are dangerous...only the food with soy protein and soymilk powder. They dont contain the nutrients of natural soy but yet carry the 'soy' name...and this is how the consumer are deceived.
"now with cattle, you got growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics that gives you so many ailments."
I thought you'll be interested in knowing that when you buy silk soymilk, you are actually supporting the dairy industry. This is their way of controlling the dairy aisles...they too have deceived the consumers. This goes back to my initial point, which is...when you have highly-acclaimed products (like soy), dont be surprise to see money-hungry companies taking part at the expense of the consumers.
"good to know that there're sheeps in this world who are so readily brainwashed by pop culture and mass media."
This sounds like you, doesnt it?
po:
"Personally, I'd be very wary about feeding infants (babies) cow milk. I'd rather give my baby soy than cow milk. In fact, dairy should probably be avoided. The best milk of all, of course, is mothers' milk."
You're absolutely right...breastmilk is the safest for infants. You're also right about soy containing more nutrients and less fat than cow's milk...there are dangers in cow's milk as well. However, soy infant formulas have been proven to be unsafe...even the soy industry have acknowledged this and have attempted to find ways to improve it. Some countries have already banned soy infant formulas. So for infant formulas, I still think milk is preferred over soy (if breastmilk isnt an option).
"I wouldn't let some scientist (who are always contradicting themselves about the health risk or health benefits of this or that food)..."
This is exactly my point. And not all research are scientific...and even the media sometimes misinterpret the health claims (intentionally or not). As consumers, we need to do the research and judge for ourselves.

Being short does not effect a person's ability to lead...it effects our ability to follow.
Short people can be great leaders...they just have to have a way to compensate for it.
In a sense...short leaders have more significance because it is truly their abilities that got them where they are.
I'm all for short people !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Asian Dominatrix:
"Now, because whites are considered better looking and high cheekbones are in, high cheekbones are considered a Caucasian trait. "
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah for real...
I totally know what you mean...
Another instance...Long legs are considered to be attractive...and therefore considered as a Caucasian characteristic. In actuality...that trait is far more common among blacks than it is among Caucasians. Large eyes are in...as it is also labled a Caucasian trait. However large eyes are actually more typical of the Latino race.
Now I'm curious too...about whether or not the Chinese had traditionally valued height.
There are four recognized beauties in Chinese history.(古代四大美女) The most
famous one...杨贵妃 was said to be "fat". Therefore people concluded that full figures were "in" during the Tang dynesty. Their height was not emphasized/mentioned as much as their weight from what I have read.
However...height was definitely a factor in the Qing dynesty...although I don't know what they considered as idealistic.
Example...here is how Royal Concubines (妃子。。贵人。。等。。)for the Emperor were chosen back in the Qing Dynasty; (I read it in a book.)
It's actually really interesting...
~~ All the Manchurian so called "Aristocrates" sent in their daughters between a certain age to be examined at.
First examination...they disqualify any girls that are too fat...too skinny...too tall...or too short.
**(Although they didn't say what exactly the height requirement was.)
Second...from all the girls that are left..they disqualify more girls based on facial features.
Third...they have what is called a "voice test" where they disqualify any girls who has too high-pitched of a voice and girls who sound manly..ect. (I think they do this by having them read a poem...which also meant that they had to be literate.)
Fourth...they put the girls in Royal clothing..including the High heeled shoes which have the heels in the middle of shoe. (旗鞋/花盆底) and have them walk a distance to disqualify girls with bad posture/movement ect.
Fifth...they do a close-up examination where they actually have the girls take their clothes off...and a royal maid look/touch them to make sure that they do not have anything outrageous going on underneath.
By this time...the number of girls left are probably down to a very few. Now they get taken into the Forbidden palace and can actually get looked at by the Emperor. Even after all that...most girls in those very few will not become actual Concubines (妃子)。Many of them just become maids(宫女) in the Forbidden palace (故宫).
So...pretty much they were picky back then :)
HEIGHT was one of the very basic things expected of girls just to become a maid near the emperor in many cases. Not to mentioned that they had to be from power families to even be in the selection process. That's why many girls back then purposely faked a manly voice ect...just so they wouldn't get chosen.
and oh yeh by the way big little man, ancient Chinese of the Qin dynasty were very tall for that time. Seen the terracotta warriors? All around 5'11. That is REALLY tall in ancient times if we compare with 1800's dutch people, who were only around 5'7 average for men. And these soldiers in Qin's tomb are based on real people, copying the features and form of when they were alive.
big little man,
Living in America probably plagues peoples mind by american media...
You see all these short asians becuz those americans choose it to pair with the tall caucasians. And I always pictured the North chinese or north chinese proper people to be the tallest in the world (excluding african type tribes and the northern european, NORTH NORTH european that is)THose darn north chinese which are so sparce is america (most are cantonese) and their look is so great. They all are like 6 ft 1 for men and 5'9 for woman . Their skin is as white as snow, but the men have masculine tans. There long heads (wht u say about us having round heads? Iz pretty long u know) and there sleek eyes are very cool. Plus there nose are high and beautiful, plus small lips on females. You people probably going "what" to me, but I spent quite a lot of time in beijing and korea, where the young people are. And they all are tall.
Atilla the Hun.... so what? I am sure he was taller than the germans who at that time were short. Just look at the armor found in england.
to "big little man"
personally, I prefer shorter guys. They look stronger, more physically stable and just generally more attractive.
Well, that's my opinion anyways.
po:
"Big eyes in women alludes to a child-like innocence and naivete -- a valued feminine trait. Babies/children tend to have larger eyes proportionally to their faces, and hence the association of innocence/child-like qualities with large eyes."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I respect your ability to analyze. However I feel that the reason why people value big eyes is much simpler than that. They just like it because it's pleasing to the eye.....Large eyes can often make a better porportioned face than smaller eyes. (In a sense that noses and mouths are big in humans in general...even for people with small noses and mouths) When you first look at a person...you can almost instinctively label him or her as good looking or not. At least you know almost right away how pleasing they are to you visually.
A lot of people confuse "Recognized beauty" with "True beauty". What's recognized is based on what is popular and valued by others...while what's true is more like ...seriously how pleasing this person is to look at as a whole without analyzing each feature and measuring them to what society deems as beautiful. Standards for recognized beauty is learned and can be justified and analyzed by why it should be valued while true beauty is based on our senses in which we are born with. Society's values on beauty can only alter our sense of true beauty to a very very limited extent. Of course... alot of times our orginal sense of true beauty is parallel to recognized beauty.
I always see pictures of models in magazines that I would not label as pretty as all. They just don't apply to my sense of beauty. However..if you analyze each feature..you can't find anything wrong with them. But still...they can look perfect but I don't find them pretty or anything. That's when recognized beauty is contradcting my idea of true beauty.
Ture beauty is much more flexible in a sense that it can not be measured by analyzing features. It's simply how pleasing they are as a whole to your senses.

Little Big Man:
You know, those same "short" huns also invaded China and Korea, going around looting, pillaging, and raping. When they were burning Chinese villages, they weren't shouting, "asian pride!"

"Next thing you know, they'll say that rice poses some sort of health risk."
lol that reminds me of all the bad press about how chinese food was bad for the health. for starters, chinese-RESTAURANT cooking is bad for the health because the americanized ingredients. anyhow it was italian, mexican, etc. cooking were all bad for the health, anything except "american" foods. now you got to be kidding to think that a double cheeseburger, fries, diet soda, then some large pizza with beer is good for the health.
people who are so easily swayed by the mass media like be just irritates me regardless of their ethnicity.
