WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
NHB,

"How do you train for taking on 8 armed opponents simultaneously?"

You don't. You pray they don't have guns. You pray that there's an exit nearby. And you fight tooth and nails to make it out of that exit in one piece.

TSJ,

I wrote that line because the board was getting filled with it.

No I'm not even close to being a ultimate kung fu guru. I was a hothead in my youth. I got involved in fighting in the streets because I was angry, had a chip on my shoulder, and had no qualms kicking somebodys butt in the streets. But after 3 years to getting involve in assualts, I can honestly say that kung fu training prepared me pyshically. But in terms of techique, because of lack of intesive sparring training, maybe 1 in 50 techiques used in the fight was a traditional technique. Maybe 1 in 10 of those techiques thrown did what it suppose to do when I fought on the street.

That's the problem, kung fu is not set up here to kick some ass in a serious street fight in the United States. That part of the problem with the media. If you ever watch two gangs fighting in the street, it looks nothing like what out there in the media. It is dirty, bloody, people crying. I've seen earlobes, fingers, and toes get managled in street fights to say the very least.

Most martial systems in the USA for street fighting are set up as a defend and run system. You disable you adversary and get out of there.

It is just based on my experience I see a lot of the post not making much sense. UFC being the ultimate form of martial skills, Monks doing demonstrations of strength....all fine and good. But toss them in an alley in NYC or LA and they'll just end up as crime stats for the month.

If TSJ handle is really a representation of the CA base youth gang, you should really know what I'm already talking about.

"I really think it is the inexperience of posters on this board in street and tournament fighting that is causing all this BS to fly around on this board."

And you are versed in street fighting and competition? How do you train for taking on 8 armed opponents simultaneously?

I am learning this form of karate because I am in the NAVY and it is free to learn different styles I really enjoy it alot it is pretty basic you don't need to learn different combos or anything just how to block, kick, and get away from an attacker oh and also dissarming techniques

What are you trying to say? That you are the ultimate kung fu master of everyone here? I think it is YOU who is trying to start a flame war while hiding behind your computer screen.

You say street fighting cannot be compared to traditional martial arts forms. Well, what do most people in America take kung fu for?! To kick some ass! No one gives a crap about the history and all that. So, street fighting would be what they take it for.

DrMidNite,

I don't see what's the point in Hapkido or TKD if all you want to do is learn about street fighting. To do that you just get involved in a lot of street fights. You will quickly realise the 1 or 2 techniques from traditional martial arts that are the most effective in street fight.

I don't see why people translate the competive martial art environment into the streets and vise versa.

No martial system trains an individual to take on 8 armed opponent simultaneously in confined quarters. And no street fight awards 1 point for clean body hits and 2 points for clean head hits with three 3 min rounds.

I really think it is the inexperience of posters on this board in street and tournament fighting that is causing all this BS to fly around on this board.

AC Dropouts:

"Are you a promoter for the UFC? Your unwaivering view sounds more like a spectator than and an actual practitioner."

No, I am not a promoter, just a fan of UFC. Depending upon your definition of actual practitioner, I like to watch UFC, I also practice boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, judo. You mentioned earlier that UFC is not mature or complete in its current form, but I think it is much closer to realistic fighting than other martial arts out there, certainly more than Kung Fu.
