To Happy Clam:
Honestly, I don't think any body knows what killed Bruce Lee except for that mistress he was caught with. I have always believed he died from an allergic reaction to high amounts of aspirin. The guy was a superb physcial specimen. He could SPRINT NOT JOG 5 miles and was a pretty strict vegetarian. Bruce had a body fat % of like 3? The dude was just phenemonal. Rumors has it that when they filmed Game of Death, they made Bruce Lee slow down because they couldnt catch his kicks on tape!

TSJ:

It's amazing how flippantly you say that Sakurai "got his ass kicked", without caring that UFC and Shooto have different rules. Matt Hughes used two things that aren't in Shooto, elbows and the fence, to win. And when Sakurai knocked Hughes flat on his butt with a strike he could have very conceivably finished the fight with a knee to the head, which he started to throw but balked because, guess what, knees in UFC are illegal as long as a point (elbow, knee) is on the ground.

I think Bruce Lee got hit by the Triads. Like I said before, kung fu studios and the Triads are hand in glove, and Chinese didn't appreciate Bruce Lee teaching kung fu to the "gwailos."

TSJ,

He said that the Japanese are very good at NHB. He didn't say that anyone of them is undefeatable.

Sakurai (not to be confused with Sakuraba) is a badass with a very impressive record in Japan, where top tear fighters all of the world seem to converge at any given time. But Mat Hughes is also a badass with undefeated record. Sakurai lost to Hughes but it still doesn’t change the fact that Japan indeed has a large stable of impressive Mixed Martial Arts fighters.

Not that it is the case between Sakurai and Hughes, isn’t it kind of funny that competing in Mixed Martial Arts, and in other sports, is sometimes like playing rock-scissors-and-paper. Fighter A wins against Fighter B, Fighter B wins against Fighter C, and Fighter C wins against Fighter A. So, who’s really the best? =)

Bruce Lee was ahead of his time. Yes the part about hashish is true. He was such an intense personality that he found a way to relax through hashish. It is tragic. But he is a legend and will live forever!

A true fan

"But if you want asians in NHB, look at Sakuraba, Fujita, Inoue, and Koshaka. Given they're all japanese, but the japanese are very good at NHB."

Sakurai from Japan was touted as the best welterweight in the country, and was considered a superstar. He came over to the US to fight in the latest UFC, and got his ass kicked bad by Matt Hughes, a "ground and pound" fighter. Sakurai, the defending Shoto champion, tried busting out his fancy spin kicks and all that, but none of it worked.

Hi all!
Again, thanks for the advice regarding martial arts classes for my son.
Now I have a new question ...I am a big Bruce Lee fan. I don't know a heck of a lot about the technicalities of Jeet Kune Do, but I have tried to read all I can about him. I especially prefer the books he has written himself.
At any rate - I have read more than once differing views on what exactly killed him. An allergic reaction to medication...an anuerism ( sp)...and now I am reading a lot about a very intense allergic reaction he had to hashish, and that he died from eating hash brownies.
Those of you knowing more than I do , please share with me your thoughts on this. It seems so sad to think a man so health - inspired may have died from drug use. ( The rumour has it he had had a coma-like reaction prior to his death, and the doctor told him he risked dying if he used hash again. Then the day of his death, he had hash brownies.)
I try not to be a prude, and I don't think a little pot ever killed anyone ( oh gee, no pun intended ) . But I must admit it saddens me to think we may have lost him because of a situation like this!!
Input, corrections, views - all welcome!!

"Toi San Jai, seems like you have a grudge against Cung Le."

I don't doubt his abilities. He just has a bad attitude, and I have been a victim of it.

Indonesian Guy from the SFbay area,

Muey Thai is a similar free style fighting to San Shou. And there are clean fighters in that sport. The same could be said about about San Shou in China.

It has to do more with culture. In the West martial arts is more about results. As long as you win, looking clean or precise is not that important.

In Asia it is more about form and traditions. You may win, but if you don't look clean and precise you will be look down upon. In fact I doubt most schools in asia would continue training you or give you opportunities if one looked sloppy. Bad for the reputation of the school.
