WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
My main purpose of learning martial arts is for protection. Also it's fun. I have learned long long long ago, traditional martial arts are very ineffective. The high flying kicks, even kicks period are usually quite ineffective. Thus TKD, KARATE, etc are worthless. My former 6th don karate instructor couldent take down a brown belt in 20 min.!!!. A real expert would have snapped his freakin neck in a few seconds. Anyways the only kick worth learning is prehaps the front kick. due to the fast non telegraphic movement useful for primarly groin strike. Kicks originate from the legs and it can only go so fast. Kicking a person is much more different than kicking a bag. The person moves, even a slight movemnet will totally dismiss most of the force of the kick. This has been proven by the best of the best fighters in the world. UFC. No one really kicks because it is more or less useless.
Begginers and some so called "experts" are so afraid of close combat. However the most deadly and effective range is close contact fighting. I am not talking about grappling. Preferably you dont even get into a dangerous situation. However if you do the best alternative is to run as quick as you can. Second best is to scream and fight to the death.
I know the traditional guys out there are wanting to kick my ass by now. But hold on. If you want to test my wise words just put on some head gear, get a buddy and practice a real life fight scenario. You will quickly know what works and what dosent.

I train in Tae Kwon Do. I am a person who really appreciates respects Martial Arts as whole. Once I receive my black belt in TKD, and I feel comfortable and confident in my ability, I would like to also learn styles in Kung Fu. When I do that, I will still train in TKD. People really should not hate on someone for liking a style in which is different than theirs. Martial Arts is about respect and reaching personal goals. I was wondering what some of your guys or girls favorite styles are and why?

taekwondo. I choose taekwondo for the reason that anyone would choose a sport. Here in America, we send our children into sports such as basketball, tee-ball, baseball, and such and such. In korea, children can be sent into taekwondo just for the same reason as that. Because it is an available sport.

The reason I choose Hakke sho and Hika Ken (kung-fu based) martial arts fighting as my favorite style is in the style itself. Both being a very defensive style which bases its parries and attacks on evasion. There is a high degree of finese with these styles.
