SOG,

I don't always recommend biting or ball grabbing. Someone has bitten me in a fight before and I was pissed as hell and beat the shit out of him more than I would have if he didn't bite me.
Certain things can piss off a fighter more than you'd like. So yeah, I usually don't recommend biting unless you're having a really hard time getting out of a choke.

As for judo, it really depends. There are a lot of shitty judo schools that focus too much on the sport aspect and you really don't learn much about defending against strikes. A long long time ago I got my butt wooped by a Kempo Karate guy when all I knew was judo.

AC Dropout,
I understand that you really like TKD. It is a good martial art. Sure a sidekick isnt that effective but i been hit with roundhouses and inside roundhouses before. They really didn't hurt me. OK so the person didnt study TKD. maybe it would have hurt me if he did. BUt he was a black belt it TKD and has been studying it since he was 6. But ive been taking JKD since i was 14 and I still beat him when we sparr. Im not talking about the sport effectiveness of it, but the street effectiveness. We are both 19 and he teaches TKD im and still learing Jeet Kune Do. The Hardcore masters could beat me up but how many do you find walkin around in your naighborhood.

I dont think SOG is mad because he cant throw any other kick but a front kick and make it effective. I think he trained and sparred before and saw that a front kick to the groin or something can really hurt someone. Those other kicks will stun someone, but you should finish it with a hand movement. The kicks arent for finishing off someone there for stunning someone. Like a sidekick. It didnt hurt the kid I was fighting with, but the puch to his stomach knocked his wind out. He had to walk around for a few minutes to breathe normally again. TKD with other movements but kicks, like grappling and trapping is effective but if 2 people can fight w/ TKD for more than 10 seconds, it probly wont work. When we practice JKD we do short sparring lessons that are 3 seconds long(maximum). THe better fighter in an effective martial art will win within seconds

the best self defence is easy to learn,

bite

pull hair

eye gauge

kick in the balls (very important)

break there fingers or thumb by pulling back

if they fall on the ground but they are not finished, then try to either kick in the balls or face, never let them get up.

when punching, go straight for theyre nose, as this will blind them for a couple of seconds.

fight like an animal

screw all this shaolin taekwando fancy crap, use your animal instinct. be a pshyco

lamar,

Thanks for the feedback. I found a Gracie Jujitsu school in my place but the problem is I have to travel for 2 hours to get there, and it looks like its the only one that is "nearest" to my place. I have yet to see and enter a Jeet Kune Do school. Part of the reason why I considered taking Aikido is because it is a grappling art and based in it's philosophy, it uses the attacker's strenth and speed to your advantage. Also, I saw a demonstration of "randori" which is like applying the Aikido techniques you've learned to a one, two or three person attacks. I don't know how realistic it is, but it looks facinating. Anyway, I'll take into consideration you and other peoples opinion before making my decision. Thanks.
