WHAT YOU SAY

Pavel,
how ironic.-I stopped my martial arts training because I found it too much less spiritual/religious. Somehow, martial art and religion are both private stuff. But it is interesting to know how communities of martial artists dealt with religion in the past:
The Tamil Nairs worshiped Skanda, the Capoeiristas worshiped different Orishas, Southeast Asians worshiped the Nagas (snake spirits) or the tiger spirit. This was connected with black magic rituals which aimed to weaken the opponent before a fisticuff.

Like I also mentioned before is that you can also read books on the subject.
Despite what people tell you that you can't learn from books or articles, it has some truth but it is only another form of communication.
A subject which is as complex and difficult as Kung-Fu is best learn from another person who is knowledgeable to teach. Its another thing to be with a Sifu who doesn't know how to teach or doesn't want to teach. You would only be wasting your time and money and not get very far.
Books are best for establishing the basics down. When you get good at it you can use martial arts books as a cross reference into other styles and techniques not present in your style and read for yourself on what works or doesn't work for you.
I've personally learn alot from books and I now have a pretty decent library of the arts I like to know more about and study. Think of it as another avenue of learning. Sometimes I learn more by reading about it and discovering it myself than having someone try to show me what they are doing.
The best learning comes from self-discovery without an audience.

Hi all.
I train Taiji Quan. Im amazed by all martial arts, japanese, korean, chinese, brazilian,...etc. Every martial art is not just the way, how to properly move, grab or hit. It is always the way of living. But the best on it is, that you dont have to live by its philosophy. It can only lead you. Its up to you.
Im just a poor beginner, but one of the most dangerous style, Im afraid of is WingChun Quan. Perfect for close combat. Very fast and hard and I think its very difficult to counter attack. But Im just a beginner. It looks like that all of you already trained for some years.
When I look at Dominus article, I think you are interested in Ba Gua Quan, right? I heard, your moving technique is based on octagon. You move along it very precisely and it can get you behind your enemy even he can spot you. Is that right? I also heard about technique Zhang-zhan or something like this, which is very difficult and long way how to achieve the proper moving.
I think the most important thing on martial arts is, that you dont need to accept some religion or God. Its free. So it doenst let you to hate or underestimate someone for his martial art, because he has different religion or phylosophy. Its its cool.
I think there is no best martial art.
Every martial art trained properly is deadly and very effective. It is never the fight between these arts, its the fight between the trainings of these fighters. Its just my opinion.
