Naki & J.J.

Plse do not respond to anything posted by William Hall as he and his friend habitually do this for fun. I think you have better things to do than get into a posting war with him.

The envy that I am talking about (which I believe both Naki and J.J. have, although I could be wrong) is that caucasians are very good looking race. Therefore, they are sought as movie stars disproportionately over other races. I don't feel as a caucasian that I should feel guilty about this. If anything I should be proud of this even if others are jealous of this fact. The numbers show this out. If you ever go to Japan you will see more people watching American blockbusters than Asian films, even though Japan owns two of the largest studios. Even Western women are sought at the Japaneese exotic bars over their own locals. Numbers don't lie.

Good post JJ. And we saw the intelligence that William Hall was able to come up with: "Jealous, I see." I guess he doesn't have much to say because there isn't much room for coherent thoughts in that rudimentary bundle of nerve endings that he calls a brain. Typical of the trolls that frequent this site with nothing better to do than try to insult a race of people while hiding behind internet anonymity. It is instructive to see the complete inadequacy of those who cling to racist ideology. Keep on, JJ, my brother.

Naki,

Jealous, I see!

I'm with you Naki. William Hall, you seriously don't have any sense. Envy has nothing to do with it....so get your asian-fetish ass out of here or we'll tell your employers at BVS Corp. you're screwing around writing stupid posts during your work hours. Reply to this if you can even provide any resemblance of an intelligent response. It's people like you that try to put down Asian-Americans because you know we're better than the low class white trash you associate with.

I agree The Joy Luck Club is a bad movie. I am an Asian American male
and I went to see the movie when it first came out and I was shocked to
see the portrait of all asian males as heartless cold.

I mentioned to friends at the time that it was not accurate. My father and many other Chinese males I knew growing up were not like that at all!
I am glad to see more and more asians are saying that Joy Luck Club is not a good movie! In my opinion, it really is a very biased inaccurate movie! I think a movie like Ang Lee's Wedding Banquet reveals so much better Chinese character and understanding! If you haven't seen Wedding Banquet, please do so and do note the father character particularly at the end.

The Atomic One,

Dude, I'm sorry, but I'm SO sick of Asian women who "don't date Asian men because they remind me of my brother and father"!!!!!! It's obvious that your father has psychologically damaged you. you're damaged goods, in my opinion. I mean, I used hear that CRAP in highschool!! I can totally imagine you saying that line while chewing on your bubble gum like a dumb blonde california girl. Sheesh. Get a life, and GET A SHRINK!!!
whatever, loser    Friday, October 19, 2001 at 11:21:33 (PDT)
The Joy Luck Club turned me against my Japanese father for years thinking he was a typical ignorant, selfish, conceited, jerk. I think the film is SO wrong! This is from the mind of some woman who doesn't date asian men because they remind her or her dad or brother. Though it did address some issues concerning the asian american experience, but still.... :(

The best is probably Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story.

To William Hall,
No other conclusion makes sense to you because you have no sense. Come back to post when you can muster a three-digit IQ.

Has anyone here ever seen the movie the Spanish Prisoner? It does not star Asians. In fact, Asians only appear in the film for about five minutes. But those five minutes probably contain the most positive and non-stereotypical portrayal of Asians in all of American film. This movie does far more for Asians than any kung fu flick or sappy Joy Luck Club nonsense.

I would recommend this movie even if there were no Asians in it at all. I don't want to give away any of the plot, because it's so full of delicious twists. But I will say that there are no asian gangsters, martial artists, waiters, grocers, geishas, "suffering women", yuppies, or Californians.

See this movie.

From reading the posts, I can only conclude that the reactions I am reading have more to do with envy than anything else. Any other conclusion really doesn't make sense.

Asian Dominatrix is right. Our perception of ourselves as a people are influenced by the medium in which we are portrayed. Hollywood does not give a balanced picture of who we are. It is always either villains or victims, but very rarely as heroes. May I suggest that to counter such media bombardment, we should watch more films that are produced from Asian countries. Films that are independent from the formulatic plots that normally churns out by Hollywood. From my experience as a teen reared during the 80's and 90's, for every Arnold, Sylverster and Van Damme films that I watch, it is countered by Jacky, Chow and Jet. That way, I have a more balanced view that even Asians can be noble, romantic and heroic.

Joy Luck club has exiled all asian men for the coming years.... it shows every asian man as a pervert, freak or loser and for an asian woman to succeed she has to meet a white guy
