WHAT YOU SAY

Being Filipino, I watched the little league world series a few years back when the Philippines destroyed the American kids something like 15-1 in the championship game, only to have the title stripped from them due to roster violations.

I remember being very happy about the news initially, even though I was born and raised in the United States, and should by all rights have been cheering for the Americans to win. The time I have spent in the Philippines in several visits is only about a month total, so I really have very little actual connection with the people and culture of the Philippines.

When they (the Filipinos) were stripped of their title, I felt really bad, since they had to resort to cheating. (From what I remember, they did NOT use overage players - as was initially reported, but rather they had ringers from other regions of the Philippines who were ineligible to play on that particular team)
What outraged me more was the indignant response of (mostly white) Americans whose racist feelings seemed to bubble out, "confirming" what they "had known all along" about Asians and their sporting teams. These Americans just couldn't believe that they had been soundly beaten by a bunch of kids from some "POS third-world dump" and cited all kinds of unrelated issues to prove their point.
I guess this is why, when Mexico plays the US in soccer, hordes of Mexican-Americans, some of whom speak little Spanish and many of whom have never lived in Mexico (much like my situation with the Philippines) will root against their home country in favor of those who represent another country but are closer to their hearts and minds.

While it is true that the Chinese team did not do well in the World Cup or in the FIBA, one can't help but notice that China is producing the tallest teams in sports both men and women. There was a Chinese goalie over 6'6" in the World Cup. Just showing up that tall is a victory in itself and is something to cheer about.
Jia You!

UH ok genius! So tall you suck twice as bad. Is that your point?

I rooted for China's basketball team, I thought they would do better but they really were bad. Never bet on the Chinese basketball team.

So now we got a Native-American coming on an Asian-American board berating some guy on his anti-white sentiments?

Take off the hood whitey!
