WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
"Actually, it is easier for the Chiu Jaus and Fukienese to assimilate with the Cantonese, Toisan in USA. At least, they manage to learn Cantonese."
Yes, this is true. It only goes to show that in America, Cantonese still rule.
I don't know anyone from Beijing other than my college Mandarin professor and the tai chi sifu at my gym. The profesor was very nice, and definitely fit your stereotypical mold of a Beijingese person, right down to the bike riding!
I don't know too many Shanghainese either, so I can't really say. Also, I don't know where people got the notion that they look great, because they look pretty average to me.
Taiwanese give me big time attitude. I mean, yeah, there are some that are really nice, but for the most part, they just stick with their own.
I guess we are deprived (possibly a good thing) here in the Bay. Pretty much the only Chinese here are Toisan, HK, and Taiwanese.

Mandarin people from Beijing are educated and honest people. They are generally friendly.
Shanghai people are quite snobby. They feign wealth even if they don't got it.
Taiwanese are hardest to get along. They sometimes even do not interact with other Chinese.

TSJ,
Those youth gangs sound like all West Coast. The biggest youth gangs here in the NYC in the 90's
Chinese
Ghost Shadows
Flying Dragons
Green Dragons
White Tigers
Vietnamese
BTK
Korean
Korean Power
BTK was pretty violent. However it was the Ghost Shadows and Flying Dragons that were extremely well established and well bank rolled because they were back by Tong association who were made up of adults and had major legit and illegit business fronts.
Green Dragon and White Tigers were made up of members the other two gangs who were kicked out. They took over mostly the Flushing area in NYC.
In the late 90's there was the Fukienese Tong association and their youth gang call themselves the Fukienese Boys. That started happening as the Ghost Shadows and Flying Dragon were getting busted.
BTK had a truce for a short time with some of the Chinese gangs in the 90's, because they just realize they couldn't take over the heroin market from the other youth gangs.
But after a friend of mine was killed in a pool hall I just stop following that world.
It's just a job. Keep interviewing and something so pop up. Don't let them get you down. Just remember some interviews are test of behavioral traits. Once you realize that you will be able to ace them.
ABC girls. Somewhere in college I aquire the habit of when dating Chinese women to speak in Chinese on dates. I remember there was this cute ABC girl I was sweating in college, but then I found out her Chinese wasn't that good, so I lost interest. We're still good friends though.
I just find it strange to have a close relationship with a Chinese woman and not speak Chinese. I don't have this problem with other asian women I've dated. Oh well must be Fruedian, we're all just looking for our mother type of deal.
