WHAT YOU SAY

Since America has gone by that "one drop black" rule,I suppose you should just follow along being perfectly happy with their racists rules.

Latino is not a culture or a color. It's a mixture of both, and the language Spanish is not even a common denonminator. Argentinians and those latinos from the Caribbean are not of the same culture. Even the language is different since Argentinians also speak Italian and I believe another European language.

Latino mulattos should not be classified as black either, simply because they are half white and half black. Whoever thought of that "one drop black rule" is disgraceful, in my opinion. We should be allowed to freely tell the world who we are and where our ancestors came from. Saying I am only Black is to deny who I really am.

Nice numbers You know you're Black when...but

1) "The number of Spanish involved in 10,000 or 15,000 migrated into the region before 1600."

Can we read that again. What year? Before the 1600's. The point may be true it seems to be aibt out date. I wonder what happened during the next 400 yrs. Remember, many Spaniards had many women and loads of children. Why do you think Latinos families are kinda big...because in Spanish culture fertility simbolized masculanity. Why do you think that Central Americans forgot their roots and ethnicity? Maybe to appear to be more 'European" in some cases, but in many cases many dads were bastards.

"After 1850 a need for labor for the construction of the Panama Canal and railroads...brought the importation of SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND BLACKS, largely from Jamaica."

This may hold true for Panama and Honduras, and Belize. Even if you go there nowadays you will find many blacks there, however mostly close the coast. Go anywhere else and you tell me if you see Blacks (unless they are Brazilians playing in a soccer league). Costa Rica is a different scenario and perhaps you may want to read on that.

3)Looks like there were more Blacks introduced into Central America than Spaniards, yet you are ALL White Spanish/Indian mix, right?

So what. It's not the end of the world. I look very Indian and proud of it

Do not become self-absorved with color issues. If you ever live in Latin America you will know racism is not as pronounced (it does exist)as in the US. People do not keep talking about color like the way they do in the US. The idea of color is very different and foreign to people like You know you're black when (YKB) since the US is obviously a different entity. I recommend you read on the concept of color in Latin America if you are really that interested.

YKB You could read all the books in the world, but there's nothing like living an experience. YKB you're basing all your arguments as an outsider and an instigator (the reason unknown). I don't believe being an outsider or critic of a culture diminishes your credibility either. I'm a firm believer that culture cannot be studied just as an outsider (someone who just observes and does not live the culture) nor as an insider (Someone who lives in a culture but does not observe). A person that ends up mimicking a culture he/she barely understands). In order to be a qualified critic of a certain group or culture you must possess insider and outsider experience. Having just one can be quite detrimental.

YKB I'm Central American and those stats you just posted are meaningless to me. So what if I have black, indian, or some other gene in me...I couldn't care less. If I don't have white I don't care either. I don't think Spaniards are White (you already argued agaist them being White in past postings but you called them White), since in Europe they are consider Mediterranean...but what are Spaniards anyhow. They were conquered by Arabs, Greeks, Moores, Celts. If you go to Spain you will notice that the foreing element is there and Spain cannot be easily defined (like you defined previously). Spain islocated right next to Europe and obviously intermixing has occurred. Also remember that is not been until lately that Spain has been the only country in Europe with a history of welcoming foreing immigrants from Northern Africa and the Middle East. Obviously, this is another story, but the whole point of this is to show that you cannot go to books and just grabs stats and throw them at people. If you have them make something intelligent with them. A country is not just a color.

I know your game. Your comments target and play with the minds of US Latinos who are a bit too ignorant of their history and roots and have giving into the American model for classifying people into a color scheme (Don't worry you certainly fall into this category as well); Or native Latin American and Spaniars who are not familiar with the history of the other Spanish speaking countries or US Latinos. I will be honest and I will say that I feel sorry for Latinos who respond back to you and feel too proud of being of a certain "color" or not having this "color" and end up discriminating against others with their idiotic superiority complexes. Yes, they may be ignorants but there are ignorants in every culture.

YKB If you're intentions were good your phrases would try to teach people with a bit more tact and with more of a focus. If you are to answer me in the future I dare you to do a couple of things. First do not pick on me for whatever flaw you found in this writing or with myself (you can do this after this excercise is over). Second, do not respond back to the ignorant Latinos that might get mad about your previous comment(s). Third, start a specific topic and define your objective or the point you're trying to prove.

Whenever I read your comments I wonder why you write them. Perhaps you don't want to say it because you have a hidden agenda. With this control experiment at least we can all know WHAT YOU"RE TRYING TO PROVE.

Why am I doing this? Because I think that you are trying to recycle hate and stereotypes and this is not what the forum was made for.

Asian brothers and sisters, Latinos and Latinos, and everyone out there I hate to be out of topic on this forum. I'd rather talk about how much I love Asian women, but this person is always in this forum and I'd like to find out what his/her objectives are.

So what do you say YKB...

To the person, you know you are black when..., please stop already. You are giving me a serious headache as well as others in here I'm sure. I don't know what your intentions are but please post your rhetoric somewhere else. This is a relationships section in case you haven't realized this. By the way I don't care if some Latinas are black, they still look good to me.

I am a latina ( a 3/4 white Puerto Rican) Actually to be more specific for those of you who are ignorant about Puerto Ricans...I am native Puerto Rican...(not all of the natives were killed.), and I am both of Spanish and French descent as well. None of my ancestors were black. Puerto Rico is a melting pot, but yes, there are quite a bit of mulattos there presently, due to the Domincan migration in the late 80's. I am an educated woman, and I do not have a problem with Asian men. I have found that most Asian men are not only highly intelligent, but of quiet character which appeals to me immensely. And Asian men, I think, are quite attractive. I always felt they would not be attracted to me for whatever reason.
I guess I was wrong!!!

To Keep it real please,

Latin American culture refers to the language spoken, which is of latin roots. The people from Latin America are referred to as latinos and latinas. Actually, there are many latinos that are of Asian descents, second or third generation. Find out about the last president of Peru of 30 years, Fujimori, he is of Japanese descent.
As a matter of fact, I went to undergrad with his niece, who looked Asian and was completely Latina in culture. More simply put, aren't the Asians born and raised in America American, especially the third and fourth generation one.

I am from Cuba and my maternal great grandmother was Chinese who emigrated to Cuba from Jamaica. A number of Chinese were brought by the English to Jamaica for labor. If you go to Jamaica, Ocho Rios, you will see a lot of Jamaicans of Chinese descent, but there's nothing chinese in culture in them, they are Jamaicans.
Some Latinos are of Asian descent    Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at 16:38:53 (PDT)
True Latina,

Yet another Latin person who knows little about what they are but lots about what they are not. Education is key!

"The number of Spanish involved in the conquest of Central America was remarkably small, and no more than 10,000 or 15,000 migrated into the region before 1600. "

"A small number of blacks had been introduced into colonial Central America by the Spanish and the English. After 1850 a need for labor for the construction of the Panama Canal and railroads, as well as the establishment of banana plantations on the Caribbean coastal plain, brought the importation of SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND BLACKS, largely from Jamaica."

Looks like there were more Blacks introduced into Central America than Spaniards, yet you are ALL White Spanish/Indian mix, right?

Why are so many AMs lusting for Latinas? Well, we AMs simply know good stuff when we see it. I, for one, vote for Shakira (Colombian rockstar) as the planet's sexiest female. True, there are hotties from every "race", but it seems Latinas have more than a fair share of beauties.

Advice to AM Latinaphiles: Travel in Latin America and learn Spanish. Wander from the beaten track. Absorb the interesting culture. The shitty AM stereotypes in the American media (created by insecure anglo men) don't exist there. As one of the few AMs anybody has met, you get to set the "stereotype". Talk to the locals, meet the senoritas, and for those intimate occasions, impress them by quoting something out of, say, Pablo Neruda's "Twenty Love Poems". (This may sound corny, but the culture down there is more romantic than the cold mechanistic one we've gotten used to.) Happy hunting, brothers!

AM happily married to Latina, and with one super-looking daughter    Monday, July 23, 2001 at 23:15:55 (PDT)
Mulattas( European/black mix) should be classified ONLY as "black." Hasn't America always went by that "one drop" black rule?? So when speaking of Latinas or Hispanics on this site , we should only refer to Hispanics from North, Central and South America with NOOOOO black blood. Since majority of Hipanics are European and Indian mix.

Cuious Latina,

While I don't get the chance to interact with many Latinas my closest experience will be with my cousins from South America. They are Chinese & Spanish mix. What I like about them is their unassuming, speaks what's on their mind kind of attitude. And they are not affected by Asian stereotype fabricated by the American media. Women from South America seem to welcome the idea of dating/marrying AMs as a few of my cousins are married to the locals there.

Latinas are friendly, sexy, unassuming. I would pick a Latina over a stuckup AF on any given day.
