WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
I am in a deep relationship with a man who moved here from China. I love him dearly. Even though I have moved on with my life, I can't help but wonder about the National Guard plane that went down in the Caguas Mountains. My ex David is in the Puerto Rican National Guard. He and I had a nasty breakup. My last words to him was that he was horrible to me and I have moved on with my life now. I told him I never wanted to see him again. He was very verbally abusive to me, and left me heartbroken. I feel just awful. I know he was a terrible man, but I don't wish him dead or anything. I wish I could at least take back those horrible words I last said to him.

Everyone,
Has anyone read the book: "The Great Cat Massacre"? It treats culture as causal and examines their effects on human behavior. The work I do is about the interplay of culture and structure, and their effects on perception, attitude, and behavior. Peoples's experiences regarding intermarriage, this book contends, are shaped by both ideas and social structure. For example, intermarriage rates are shaped by demography. Where there are lots of Jews there is a lower percenage of interamarriage than where there are few Jews. Intermarriage patterns do reflect evolving class positions of minority groups. As more Japanese Americans have become middle class, their outmarriage rate has shot up. BUT intermarriage patterns, particularly gender patterns, are not just functions of the social stucture. They depend in large part on the images that people of the various ethnic groups have of each otehr and of themselves. I have been 4 years practicing celebacy and just recently began dating. My current beau is a man from Kyoto,Japan. The area in which we are currently dwelling is not very open to other cultures. It is quite interesting.

very scared,
Korea is pretty safe. Crime rates are low, transportation networks are one of the most clean and efficient around the world (specially the subway system, never seen anything like it). I don't think you'll encounter people treating you bad for being non-korean, there's people who'll be really friendly and talkative with you. My best friend (a colombian guy) went to korea with me 3 years ago and had an awesome time.
If you're gonna be hanging around Seoul, Pusan, or any other major city you'll get to see people from U.S, Canada, Russia, Bangladesh, etc, etc...
I really suggest you hit the bar and club scenes near yonsei and Hong universities if you're 20 or older. If not get a fake ID from the states,OR hang out at karaokes and go to shopping (there's tons of shopping places in Seoul and they're open 24/7).
There's tons of fun stuff to do in Korea, so relax and get ready to have fun.
If you have any more questions let me know.

Very Scared:
You have NOTHING to worry about. Corea is WAY safer than US ever will be. People don't even lock their doors in Corea, you'll have alot of fun and hopefully you'll come back. Coreans love foreigners, especially the younger ones, they have nothing against Mexicans.

I was invited to visit my friend Winnie in Korea. I am very scared to go there. I have never been outside of the U.S before except to drive down to visit my folks in Mexico. Winnie wants me to stay there for 4 weeks with her. I like Korean men, they look very nice. I like to hear when they speak in the korean language, it sounds very cute. But I don't know what it will feel like if I go there. I am not going to pretend to be brave. I am not brave, I am a coward. I am very scared to go there. My mother and father are scared for me too. Winnie's father told my parents that they will watch over me and make sure that I am safe. I am supposed to be leaving in 4 days. Winnie is very excited to see me, and I feel the same way too. She is my very best friend. I miss her that she moved away. But I am so scared to go to her country. How do Korean people treat outside people in their country? Do they like mexican people much? It sounds like dumb questions probably. I don't care. I need to know the answer, even though it sounds dumb.

I live in a neighborhood that is very diverse. There are very many Bosnian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Mexican, Cuban and Senegalese people. The nicest are the Asian people. I really think they are more polite and well dressed and they care about education. They really study hard and strive to do their very best. I admire that so very much. I have met some really so nice young Asian men at college. They seem to be more interested in me that other men. The other men treat me like a piece of meat, like they are only seeking sex from me. The Asian men treat me like a lady, and I really like it alot. That is some reasons why I am more attracted to them.

Is anyone here in a long distant relationship? Do they work? I am in one now. I am not used to having one with my boyfriend. He used to live only 15 minutes away from me. Now hes miles and miles away. We have something very special with each other. But hes there and I am here.
