STRAIGHT SHOOTER
GS: You have some strange notions. Lee: [Mock anger] They're not strange! It's not that I'm going to be his slave. It's that I'm going to want to feed him because I love him and it's something I'm able to do for him. Believe me, I'm not going to carry the heavy trash bags, I'm not going to be fixing the plumbing, I'm not going to be fixing the car battery. In other words, in a good relationship you just do what you can out of love. I try to always give and not expect back. If you expect from people, you're just going to get disappointed. But if you never expect and only give, you feel good about yourself and when they finally give something back it's the greatest thing in life. I think I'm pretty happy that way.
GS: What's been the secret to your success. Lee: My friends. When I started out I was 20 and I was scared and I was new. And all I knew was that all I wanted to do was to play pool from the minute I woke up to the minute I went to sleep. When I slept I wanted to dream about pool. When I didn't dream about pool, I woke up crying. That sounds a little insane, but I think that's what drove me to the top. A lot of people don't necessarily like the fact that you came out of nowhere and you're getting a lot of attention, and you're scared. You don't have a lot of friends. It's scary. When you have a few people who hold your hands and tell you it's okay, it really means a lot. GS: Your looks are certainly an element of luck in your success. Who do you look like, your mom or your dad? Lee: My mother is so beautiful, but you look at my father and he's really handsome. My sister really looks like my mom. My father's tall and my sister and my mom are very short. [End] |
