GOLDSEA | ASIAMS.NET | ASIAN AMERICAN PERSONALITIES
DAY STAR
GS: They were 100% Asian. You're half Asian. Do you identify completely with being Asian? LP: No. I see myself split down the middle. However, I will be probably more American because I was born and raised here. As far as my bloodlines go, I know I'm split right down the middle and I'm half. I feel like hapas are a race of their own. I like that I have so many things that make me what I am and don't feel that identity crisis that people talk about.
All the other actors are Asian. They almost weren't going to hire me because I'm not 100%. GS: Did you feel comfortable in an all-Asian cast? LP: Absolutely, same way I feel comfortable in an all-caucasian cast. It's part of me, so I identify with it. There's defintely no strange feelings one way or the other. GS: How did you do the movie while you were doing B&B? LP: I was lucky. They filmed the movie over Christmas break so there were two weeks there that I didn't need to be on the set. When I started filming B&B again, they wrote to me on the weekend. GS: How long did the movie take to film? LP: The whole production was about a month but I didn't work every single day, maybe 10, 11 days. GS: How do you feel about the role as opposed to the soap roles? LP: It's pretty much the same. [laughs] GS: What about you makes people keep putting you into that kind of role? LP: I don't know. I've also played the girlfriend and the actual catch-of-the-day kind of roles. These roles however are great because they show a lot of emotion, a lot of passion. GS: How do your parents feel about your career? LP: They feel proud because I'm doing something I set my mind to and I'm doing it well. They're very proud. But we've reached a different section of my career because I'm an adult now and I'm handling it on my own and they've passed me the baton. Before they'd have to take me to all the auditions and play a big part in my career. As a kid it was more my mom's career than mine, because it was her job to keep all the appointments straight. GS: Do you handle all your own finances? LP: I'm starting to. I'll sit down and discuss it with them because, of course, I trust them and my dad's a pretty good financial strategist. GS: Is he the one who recommends your investments?
LP: Yeah, he's great.

GS: How close are you to them? LP: I see them so often. I think they call more when I'm at this house than when I was on the guest house on their property. GS: You haven't lived there since you were 14, right? LP: No, I moved back in my senior year in high school. I wanted to do prom and I wanted to graduate and the big ceremony and I just wanted to live those experiences. So I left All My Children and finished up my high school career there. It wasn't all I thought it would be, like in the movies with the Molly Ringwold and Matt Dillon characters. It was sort of anti-climactic to be honest, but I'm glad I did it. GS: You haven't had a chance to go to college. LP: I have been taking classes at a junior college because I don't want to sit here stagnant thinking I know everything. Whether it's photography class or art or English or some sort of math I'm bad at or ceramics, I'm always doing something. GS: Do you have a hobby? LP: I'm a painter--I paint with acrylics and oils. I'm in a band--I sing with two other girls. We're in the process of getting our music together. I go to see a lot of movies, spend time with my family, my friends. I surround myself with people that love me. I like outdoor things. I like to go to the beach and go hiking up the mountains to get up to nature. GS: Can you do any traveling? LP: I'm tied down as of now. I don't know what my schedule's going to be until a week or two in advance. I'll take weekend trips and that kind of thing. If I know I have a block of time, I will definitely travel. GS: Have you been to Corea? LP: My family and I have been talking about it for years. My mom wanted my brother and I to be old enough to understand the reason why we're there. Now that we're old enough we're all so busy we can't seem to get the time together. But we're definitely going to do it before Bryan finishes his screenplay. | Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
