Deng Xiaoping's Sole Grandchild a US Lawyer

The only grandchild of Deng Xiaoping is a US-born Wall Street lawyer accused of sexually harassing a female colleague, according to a report published in the US-based Chinese-language reader-sourced news site Boxun.

Deng Xiaoping is the leader who set China on the reform path that has led it to become the world’s second biggest economy. Deng’s biological legacy has been less inspiring, at least to members of China’s Communist Party.

Deng’s eldest son Deng Pufang is nearly paraplegic from brutal beatings suffered when the Deng family was purged during the Cultural Revolution. Deng Xiaoping’s second son Deng Zhifang married Liu Xiaoyuan and gave birth to a son Deng Xiaodi in 1984. Xiodi was born in Rochester, New York where his parents were studying at the time, and is, therefore, an American.

While Deng Xiaoping was alive he is said to have become enraged by accusations that his grandson was a US citizen, insisting that Xiaodi was a Chinese citizen.

Regardless of his citizenship Deng Xiaodi graduated from Duke University Law School in 2008 and changed his surname to Zhuo — the surname of his grandmother. Xiaodi — who goes by the name of David Zhuo in the US — is said to have been working at a Wall Street law firm.

Last September Xiaodi aka David Zhuo was arrested on suspicion of sexually harassing a female colleague, according to a Boxun report submitted by an anonymous reader which has not been confirmed. He was reportedly released the following day, and soon settled case by paying $200,000. These unconfirmed details spread quickly among China’s netizens.

Since then Zhuo is said to have moved to another law firm while his accuser left for Germany.

Zhuo is reportedly living in an apartment near Wall Street worth $3 million and drives a Mercedes.
