Ming Yang Yeh heads a structural engineering firm that performs seismic evalutions and structural design for projects like the USC Medical Center and the eternally-ongoing Los Angeles subway system. Yeh is in charge of structural design as well as project inspection, general consultation and various administrative and personnel duties. It’s a long leap from the days of driving company bosses around Taiwan in search of scrap.
Yeh was born in Taipei in May of 1952. His parents joined him in the U.S. after he came to pursue his master’s degree in structural engineering at Cal State University. The family remains very tightly knit. Running a business may not allow Yeh much free time, nevertheless the extended family congregates every weekend for a “friendly” game of mah jong. Yeh met his wife when he hired her to work at the firm. Their favorite pastime is watching their pre-school-age son grow.
