Ida Liu leveraged her father’s venture capital success with her own talent for building banking services.
Chinese-American Ida Liu has become a prominent figure in private banking and wealth management as the Global Head of Private Banking at Citi. In this role she oversees Citi's tailored financial solutions for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families worldwide through its 52 offices in 20 countries.
Liu’s career at Citi Private Bank began in 2007 when she launched and headed up its fashion, retail and entertainment group. In 2011 she founded the North America Asian Clients Group. Her knack for developing new business led to her promotion to Global Market Manager for New York in 2016, followed by Head of Private Banking for North America in 2019.
The Bay Area native grew up in Orinda, California with Mandarin-speaking parents. Her father is Peter Liu, a prominent venture capitalist who founded the WI Harper Group. As a Young Global Leader she had the distinction of having participated in the 2019 Davos World Economic Forum simultaneously with her father.
Liu holds a BA from Wellesley College, graduating in 1998 with a double major in Psychology and Chinese Studies, and a 2000 MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Liu, 50, is fluent in Mandarin and Spanish. She is married and has two children. Some of her energies are devoted to causes like supporting the Asia Society and the Chinese American Committee of 100 and the International Women’s Day.
