Nick Suzuki Aims for Gold in Olympic Debut

Currently 10th in league scoring, the Canadiens' youngest-ever captain prepares to lead Montreal into the playoffs and Team Canada to the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In his seventh NHL season star center Nick Suzuki has the Montreal Canadiens competing in the league’s toughest division. The team captain ranks 10th best league-wide in points and assists contributing to the team’s 31-17 record.
The premier two-way force is making an impact in as a Canadien in more ways than one in 2026. In addition to his NHL team he will be representing Team Canada at the Winter Olympics for the first time in Milano Cortina. They are favored to win the Gold.
Suzuki has spent his entire NHL career with its most successful franchise after initially being drafted in the first round by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017. In 2021 he led the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup appearance since 1993 scoring a team-best 16 points throughout the playoffs. Suzuki’s efforts were well-rewarded, signing an 8-year, $63 million contract extension in the offseason.
He became the Canadiens 31st captain in franchise history the following year – and at 23, the youngest to do so. In 2025 his play reached new heights as he recorded his first point-per-game season.
Throughout his career Suzuki has earned the “Ironman” moniker for never missing a game since his NHL debut in 2019. The 26-year-old has played over 500 consecutive games – the second-best active streak. Along the way he has earned 3 All-Star Game nods and the All-Rookie Team in 2020.
Raised in London, Ontario, Suzuki is a fifth-generation Japanese Canadian. In 2023 he was honored by Toronto’s Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre for being a modern ambassador of Japanese culture within Canada.
