Cell Phone Cameras Used for Mobile Police Surveillance

Police patrolling the Port of Los Angeles have a new tool to help improve surveillance at one of the nation’s busiest ports.
A mobile technology company announced Thursday it will provide officers with software that will enable them to capture live video using their cell phone cameras. Reality Mobile says the ability to record and share video instantly with other officers will help raise everyone’s level of awareness during an emergency.
Julia Kirwan, a port police official, said the mobile cameras are critical for a force tasked with protecting a massive complex and 46 miles of waterfront.
The software is part of a $4.2 million initiative to help port police improve the way they manage critical incidents.
