Ashley Park Turns Theatrical Chops into Streaming Success

Ashley Park leveraged theatrical acclaim into a regular roles on the Netflix hit series Emily in Paris and Beef, among others.
Korean-American Ashley Park may be best known to the masses for her starring role in the Netflix series Emily in Paris, but her brightest successes were earned on stage.
Park snagged a 2018 Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in the Tina Fey-inspired rock musical Mean Girls for her role as Gretchen Wieners. She was part of the ensemble cast from its Washington D.C. premiere through its Broadway run.
Her first leading role was principal soloist on the cast recording of The King and I for which Park was nominated for a 2016 Grammy
Since her Broadway debut in 2014 for Mamma Mia! Park has appeared in KPOP, Lady in the Dark, and Gutenberg! The Musical!
Since Emily in Paris premiered in 2020 Park has appeared in all 40 episodes through 4 seasons as Mindy Chen. She has performed 5 songs for the series soundtrack, including a cover of “La Vie en Rose.” It’s estimated that she has earned $100,000 per episode, putting her series earnings at $4 million.
The show’s success and extravagantly chic costumes landed Park the digital cover of Vogue Hong Kong in February 2023, helping to propel her Instagram following to 3.8 million.
Her success in the streaming and film worlds have Park recurring roles in the 2021 Peacock series Girls5eva, in which she has appeared in 10 of 22 episodes to date, 7 of 10 episodes of Netflix’s Beef, and the starring role in the 2023 comedy film Joy Ride.
The 33-year-old Ann Arbor native received a BFA in musical theater from the University of Michigan in 2013. She began dance classes at age 3 and piano lessons at 5. In high school Park was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. After chemotherapy she found solace in her high school’s theater and choir programs.
